I just tried hooking up my bose companion 2 series speakers to my laptop...nothing. I then tried hooking them up to my ipod and still nothing? did i get a dud pair. My computer is a Dell Vostro. HELP!

first off make sure they have power. second check audio settings and three, try them on another unit you know works, even if you try them at a friend's house. still problems? return the speakers

Well if you currently find the sound of the Bose acceptable and your inbuilt HD TV speakers poor, then the answer is yes. Should you not like the sound of the Bose, plugging them into an HD TV won't make them sound any better :-)
Just use the headphone out of your HD TV to connect. You may find you need to enable the headphone socket/volume via the menu settings on your HD TV
i noticed you mention an apple icon
is this computer an apple
have you tried selecting desktop speakers if there is that option
or maybe the drivers have been corrupted you might have to uninstall then reinstall either the sound device or the sound drivers
make sure you have them backed up to a disk before uninstalling them/anything
