HP ScanJet 5590 and OS 10.3.9

I have someone using a Mac with 10.3.9 on it and a HP ScanJet 5590. When she tries to scan the software quits on her. We run all the utilites and downloaded the latest drivers and it still does it. Any suggestions besides upgrading the OS?

I would do a manual uninstall and make sure to do the device utility at the end and follow the directions step by step from this link.

Redownload the drivers and make sure they are for 10.3.9 and the full feature software to make sure the right drivers are going to be installed.

Also I would unplug the unit while it is on and plug in directly to the wall to make sure not a power issue. The printer does not share power well and pulls it in large amounts - when it can't get it it throws little power fits and sometimes will not turn on at all or it gives error messages.

Forget about the HP software. It's useless in OS X. Get a copy of VueScan and use it instead. http://www.hamrick.com

Scan documents to PDF

Use the HP scanjet 5590 software that come with the scanner. There will be an option in the software to scan it up and turning it to a .pdf

If you don't have the CD, you still can download it on the HP's website

Is there any software for scanning can use with this scanjet 5590 with win 7...it seems i cant install hp photo and imaging software on my win 7 machine..help me..

Try downloading the latest software from HP: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=377691&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=377689

They list Win7 versions of the full software issued Dec 11, 2009, as well as just the basic drivers. However, if you installed the scanner using the generic drivers in Win7, you should be able to scan using Windows Fax and Scan or Paint. (In Paint you bring in the images as if they were on a camera.)

I hope this helps.

HP Solution Center does not recognize the scanner anymore... We are operating on a Windows 7 system... the drivers had to be downloaded from the internet because the cd that came with the printer was for...

I had the same problem and solved it. I was using HP Solution Centre to run my HP Scanjet 5590 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit without problems. Then I ran the scanner using Windows Fax and Scan, but didn't like it, so went back to HP Solution Centre - whereupon the scanner was not recognised.
After hours of reinstalling software etc etc, without success, I suddenly noticed four device icons on the left hand side of HP Solution Centre. These were labelled (when hovered over with the mouse) hp scanjet 5590, hp scanjet 5590 #2, hp scanjet 5590 #3, hp scanjet 5590 #4. Only the top icon was active, but when I clicked on any of the four it moved to the top.
Clicking on hp scanjet 5590 #2 gave me a working installation once more - problem solved. No doubt the multiple icons arose from my desperate attempts to try different USB ports.

HP Scanjet 5590 Lamp Error "Bad or fading lamp (error -4430)" Fixable? Can I do it? Best source to purchase?

From HP forums:

The first thing I would do is to make sure your TMA is properly attached. Next, make sure your software is up to date and that any applicable patches have been applied.

Next, what OS are you using? What application are you trying to use to scan with? Can you scan from any other application such as word or another graphics program?

Begins scanning...then stops in middle and won't complete scan. I'm in windows 7 with HP Scanjet 5590

Go into your "printer properties" and make sure that someone hasn't inadvertantly changed the page settings.

Blank Scan from HP Scanjet 5590 Flatbed Auto Feed

Scanning is possible in 'Text' mode and 'Picture' Mode. In text mode, which is simple 'Black & White", this can happen, particulalrly if the text is in color. Either you increase the contrast settings or scan the document in Grey/color and convert it to B&W using the software. By this you need not check if there is output!. ( I am assuming that otherwise the scanner is performing okay). File size in B&W is very small as compared to Grey/color.
