The old card has to be disabled in bios or some times you can do it from safe mode by uninstall. For bios settings depending on the PC it self you would have to start the pc and first screen that shows up will tell you how to access bios settings. In the settings there is an option to turn off on board video card. Hope this helps.

You might have to replace mother board and it is probably cheaper to get a new pc on tigerdirect.com. Sorry

In the HP ECS Nettle 2 motherboard common on many Compaqs around 2007 to 2009 using AMD AM2 CPUs and the Sempron, press F10 on first pressing the power switch so it goes into SETUP (the bios), in the BIOS you will find an OPTION "Primary Video Adaptor" by default it is set to PCI at manufacture for the onboard video, change that to PCI-E ( PCI EXPRESS) if you have an external video card in the PCI-Express slot, then save settings in the BIOS, boot the computer and load the video drivers that came with your external video card or windows vista or windows 7 will find and install the drivers for you or if it cant prompt you to insert the driver cd that came with your card.
The Nettle 2 automatically detects and switches over to external video card but sometimes this does not work too well ( YOU CAN GET INTERMITTENT AND RANDOM BLUE SCREENS AND VIDEO ERRORS AS THE ONBOARD VIDEO CONFLICTS WITH THE EXTERNAL VIDEO CARD) and by forcing the onboard video off by changing the primary video adaptor settings in the BIOS to PCI-E, this may overcome the problem - sometimes although rarely nowdays some computer hardware is just incompatable with each other and you cant marry them.

Hi, Girbi. I saw this post and know that it is somewhat dated. But I have the exact same problem and cannot find a solution. Did you ever figure out how to disable the onboard card? The Pavilion BIOS does not allow complete disabling as far as I can tell. Thanks.

Most motherboards that have built-in video cards can be disable from the BIOS configuration.

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2010

To get into the BIOS configuration of HP and Compaq computers, try pressing F2 or F10 several times as the computer boots up, even though you cannot see anything on the screen.

Wont turn on has new power suply and power switch

Substituting in other working components will be the only way to confirm the motherboard is not working. You may find that the motherboard or the CPU has died. Without more information about your system, it is difficult to provide more help.

    HP MCP61PM-HM motherboard diagram

    Hi RobPu,
I have searched everywhere. I even entered a chat windows with Compaq & asked for a site to download the manual for Compaq Presario SR5015LA Desktop PC which has the motherboard MCP61PM-HM in it. (Nothing). This board was made by
ECS known as EliteGroup. Still nothing. Forms for the most part do not help, only with drivers. Drivers for the board can be found on Compaq's web site.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodinfoCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3411762
But the manual will not download. That's what is needed to hook up the front panel pins to you're case. I even looked for other possible boards who's layout was close to the MCP61PM-HM.
Nothing! I did find other Compaq PC's that also had the same board in it but after looking through the manuals, not one actuallys shows where to plug the front panel LED's on to the board. Why? Because Compaq does not support a user changing out their case for another. There is no money in that.
For the most part RobPu, system boards share some things in common. I am posting a picture for you. This pic is upside down for you so try & work with me here. Hook up you're LED's as shown. This should work for you. Pin 1 is you're starting point.
daa3370.jpg This is standard for ECS boards even if it's being sold by Compaq. Like I mentioned, for you it is posted unside down.
Try it, I'm sure it will work for you.

    Enjoy!
If I can help you further, feel free to post.
    Suggestions & comments welcomed.
    Mike
