OK depending on experience it is about a 7/10 ... IF the entire board is to be replaced as a unit, then a trained monkey could unplug and replug the wires. IF however it is a "Parts replacement" ie: desolder and resolder than, a lot more skill is involved. Apart from a suitable screwdriverand soldering iron, say a 40W fine tip. No special tools are needed.
NEVER work on the unit plugged in, always wait 5 mins after Turn off/Un-plug so it can discharge any capacitors.
Draw diagrams and write it down.

Can I replace a broken screen for a ld190EM1

You can replace it yourself. I would not do it though if you are not confident about using tools and electronic parts. There are screws and connectors that you have to take out. That is the big thing. MAke sure if you order the screen that it comes with the back lights or you are really going to be getting into some detailed work that involves the use of soldering irons and special tape.

I have an R51 1836-Q6U. When I turn on the laptop I get a series of screens that show scrambled patterns (these are not the test patterns one would normally see during a bios check of an lcd) they are more...

You should try connecting an external monitor. If it shows nothing at all or a scrambled image or it does load to Windows but won't let you change the resolution or the color space, your graphics chip most probably got overheated and de-soldered itself. There is no easy fix. This would involve taking the laptop apart and either heating the GPU (which would end up being a temporary fix) or sending of the motherboard to professionals who specialize in GPU re-soldering.

What is a video IC and how do i replace it?

A video IC (integrated circuit) is one of the many parts in your TV. As the name implies, it's one of the parts that does video processing. Any IC is physically a plastic package with metal leads that connect to the circuit board. Replacement involves removing the solder from those connections and taking the old part out, then soldering the new one in. Depending on the package style and location in the set, this can range from very easy to darn near impossible without specialized equipment.

I gather from the way you've asked your question, though, that you should probably not be trying to repair a TV yourself. Without some training in electronics, troubleshooting techniques, the proper tools and some experience, TV servicing can be hazardous to you as well as possibly causing more damage to the set. I would advise you to leave the repairs to a professional servicer. If you want to keep the TV it would be money well spent.

Thanks for using Fixya!

LCD tv powers on, no picture with sound

The problem is not with the inverter circuit. If that was the problem, you would not see the polaroid screen either. The problem is within the video path of the set. This is not a homeowner repair as the ICs involved here are surface mounted and require specialized equipment to replace. You should request an estimate from a local servicer ($50 or so) and report the results here. We can then guide you through the actual replacement of the correct board(s).

Monitor screen is very dim.

Hi,
you must replace your lcd inverter, you can obtain one for around 5-15 usd, you will need to open your lcd bezel(plastics)this it a common problem in this model, its easy just be carefull with your lcd. The inverter it is located under lcd, you need to remove the frontal plastic, locate the inverter and replace it. The dark it is because your inverter no longer turn on your backlight(a lamp to give brightness to your lcd inside your lcd)
This could be a hard work if you didnt have the tools or experience.

If you wish we can replace your inverter for $49 usd

Bought Niko 32 LCD HDTV last year Sound is good No picture.

Changing the inverter board shouldn't be hard. It's just the matter of taking things apart and unplugging some wires to it.
There shouldn't be anything you would have to solder in.
I'm sure he gave you the price of the whole inverter board itself. Not the small transformer inverter on the board.
