Upgrading BIOS! If it isn't broken don't fix it. Upgrading is a scapegoat fix, and many manufactures have a disclaimer. "You are on you own", and the likes for a reason. This is a bios firmware problem. Toshiba is well aware of it. You need to find an authorized Toshiba center and they will fix the problem for free. Make sure you stick to your story of NEVER putting a password on the laptop ;)

Sometimes my laptop does this as well. It seems to happen more and more when it is warm. You might try putting something underneath it and ensure it is getting enough air flow. Once I started doing this, mine has been doing it less and less. Hope this helps.

You get BIOS upgrades from Toshiba.

upgrading bios is dangerous.. in not complate or accedentaly restart. system will not work...

Typically, graphics cards in laptops are incredibly hard to upgrade. Consider it impossible. However, contact Toshiba and ask if you can upgrade. Some laptops are upgradable.
