Will my Coolpix 5600 use SDHC SanDisk cards?

The DX7590 works with MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

I would try to insert it in your PC and then format the card. Then reinsert in your camera and
see if that helps.

There are no 4GB SD cards. "SD" cards larger than about 1GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. The DX6490 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to go with SD cards 2GB and smaller.

Not without replacing the motherboard. Even though an SDHC card will fit into the slot, there are hardware differences that preclude an SD device from using an SDHC card. It cannot be done with a firmware upgrade, but will require a hardware modification.

At 4GB size, your memory card is likely a SDHC card, and not a standard SD card. Although they look the same, there is a difference in formatting. Unfortunately your model camera was designed before the SDHC format came out, and it will not work with your camera. But fortunately standard SD cards are very inexpensive these days, and you should be able to purchase a good 2GB standard card for around $6 with shipping:

sd hc cards are not supported by 7900, you will never can use such a 4gb card with this camera
