I have a new computer and need the software for my coby 610MP3 player. What is the download software website? ANd how do I download itunes to this mp3 player for my sons.

Hello,
Go to cobyusa.com for Coby support.
Specific downloads for the MP610 can be reached if you enter MP610 in the Product Search bar.
When you need Coby Media Manager go to the link "fix for MP822" on the support site cobyusa.com: the fix is the Media Manager from Coby, it can be installed for Windows as well as for Mac.

When using other software programs like Windows Media Player 11 or iTunes, look in the help function or internet site for the used program.
For transfers mainly go through next steps:
0. First install and update the software you will use for transfers
1. Running the software program, the player can be detected in the used software program when connecting the USB cable
2. Setup the library in the used program: the location of the media files must be marked to have access to the data
3. Create a playlist: for example put songs in a list
4. Transfer the playlist onto the player: synchronize the list
5. Wait until the data finished synchronizing; wait for the message you're allowed to disconnect, after that you can take out the USB cable

Please call COBY electronics at 800-727-3592 and let them know you received that player as a Xmas present. They will tell you to send the unit to COBY with $6 money order and you'll receive a new player in exchange. During the Xmas warranty period which lasts until March, you will not need to send a copy of the receipt.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here.

My coby mp 610 wont play all the music i have on it.

I use a different MP3 player, but I noticed that mine wouldn't play .AAC files, only .MP3 files. I upgraded the firmware of mine and then it played everything. I noticed there is a new firmware upgrade for the COBY 610, so that might be of help to you.

You can find it at the cobyusa.com website by choosing 'Mp3 & Portable', then 'Mp3 & Mp4 Players', then your model 'MP610', from the support page. Or, here is the direct link to the file from Coby's servers.

ca041a9.jpg

Unpacking the zipfile from the Coby Website will give you a PDF file with instructions, and a program file to run.

Your music will be erased when you run this firmware update. The instructions suggest that even if your mp3 player won't startup properly, if you plug it into your computer you should be able to access it as a removable disk, and copy all your music to a temporary folder on your computer.

Here are the steps:

  1. Plug your MP610 into your computer.
  2. Copy all your music to a temporary folder.
  3. Disconnect your MP610 from your computer.
  4. Disconnect as many USB devices as possible from your computer (to simplify identifying the MP610 at a later step, and avoid damaging other devices by trying to load the MP610 firmware into them by mistake.)
  5. Run the Firmware Update program 'MP610 T LCD Firmware Update for file sys err.exe'
  6. You will see a screen with up to 24 numbered, empty boxes.
  7. Connect the MP610 to your computer. It will show up in one of the boxes.
  8. Once the MP3 player shows up, click on the Firmware Feature icon to start the firmware upgrade.
  9. After the firmware update is complete, you will receive a checkmark in the Firmware box.
  10. Disconnect the MP610.
  11. Close the firmware update software.
  12. Turn on the 610 to confirm it starts up and the display reads 'COBY'.
  13. Plug it back into your computer and copy your music back on to it.

Can't seem to transfer music files to my new MP610-2G

The cobyt player is completely incompatible with iTunes. If you have songs that are in mp3 format, you can use Windows Media Player to transfer the songs to your Coby. If your songs are already in AAC (iTunes) format, you can use a free program like Media Monkey to convert UNprotected AAC files to mp3 format so that they will be usable with your Coby. Media Monkey is not capable of converting protected files.
