Hi Willy, i have the same problem. Im trying to connect my Samsung VP-D361 Mini DV Digital Camcorder to my laptop (Windows 7) but I cant. Is the problem with the O.S driver compatibility?
This is a Firewire cable, also known as DV or IEEE 1394. Sony call it i.Link. It is not compatible with USB and you cannot get a lead to connect it to a USB port. There are converter/adapters that are supposed to allow Firewire to connect to USB but many forum posts say they do NOT work for video transfer. Unfortunately, most Mini-DV cameras will not transfer video by USB cable, even when they have a USB connection (it is usually only used for still pictures).
Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. If you had a desktop PC, you could fit an add-on Firewire interface card to the expansion bus. This will come with a driver for the card.
I have a Samsung Mini-DV, and do transfers with it to the one computer I have that has a Firewire port. It is the only thing I use that computer for, and the reason I haven't thrown it out.
Unfortunately dv or also called mini firewire is a firewire cable. There is no mini to USB cable out there. On the other hand it is very inexpensive to add a firewire card to your computer if you have any available expansion ports. here's an example on Amazon but you can find them much cheaper if you look around;
if your trying to download video usb won't work! must use firewire cable hooked up to dv port on cam and connection on laptop or tower called 1394-cable is either 4 pin or 6 pin-depends on computer- cam is always 4 pin-says dv on camcorder-usb only for still pics-use windows movie maker in xp or vista to edit
You must first make sure weather it supports Vista. If it supports then first install the installation CD along with the drivers and software. Then u can choose the destination to save the Video.
