My microwave turns on but does not heat up it is only 6 months old wot can it be

  • cathy3739 Feb 15, 2009

Mine is a GE Sensor Microwave, Model #WES1450DM1BB. I bought it for an elderly woman and her handicap daughter. They can' find any of the paperwork that I left them. I bought it about 6 months ago. I was manufactured in Jan 2008 which should prove it is still under warranty. Does anyone have a # that I can call about this?

    .
Since it's only 6 months old, I would contact the manufacturer's customer service department for them to repair it at no charge.

If you don't have your owner's manual, please reply back with your brand and model, I should be able to give you contact information.

It may have a defective magnetron. If this microwave is 6 months only, still under manufacturers warranty and you should take it for repair.
The magnetron has a warranty of 5 years in some cases, read the warranty section of the users manual.
Good Luck.

My microwave turns on, turntable turns, just won't heat. the microwave is 6 years old. Is it wiser to bring in a repairman or just replace? there is a picture of the microwave by the timer window.

There are 2 fuses inside the cabinet. One is for the clock and turntable. The other is for the high voltage transformer and the microwave module. If this fuse is blown either the transformer is shorted or the module has failed to cause the fuse to blow. Parts and Labor can get close to the cost of a new one, so get an estimate so you can have information to make your decision

My microwave oven isn't heating my food. Everything else works, the fan, the lights and the keypad. The microwave turns and sounds like everything is working but the food won't get hot. It is only 6 months...

Small component called a diode. Open up the microwave and try to find a black (usually) component that is most often connected between the magnetron (the thing that heats the food) and the chassis of the microwave oven (ground). I used to make a fortune replacing these! Costs about 5 bucks most appliance supply stores. Make darn sure you get one of the same value.

Microwave taking much longer to heat food

The microwaves are produced by what is known as a KLYSTRON TUBE. Like anything, early failure is possible. There is also the possibility that the transformer or electronic circuit providing the correct voltage to the KLYSTRON has failed, either from over-use, manufacturing defect, or leakage from the KLYSTRON enclosure, which creates heat.
With microwaves being as CHEAP as they are, replacement should not be an issue.

It may be a shorted high voltage diode.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

You can contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277) or visit them online.

Cookworks microwave not heating up

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, I would suggest calling the dealer where you bought it to see if they have a number for Cookworks.

It doesnt matter how old a system was. components can be failed at any point in time. unplug the unit. carefully disassembly and visually check the diode near magnetron and capacitor, it might be broken. If seems good, check the thermostat continuity,if beeping. changage your magnetron. be careful capacitor store charges that deadly. discharge the capacitor first.
when you change mag. change the diode too.
