Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Bowed red green lines at top screen. picture looks like it in 3d.

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D, wavy, or has a shadow or shadows
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

I left my 60 inch rear projection mitsubishi HD 1080 on overnight as I fell asleep in front of it for about 5 hours (11pm - 4am). This morning when I turned it on the picture is doing a fisheye effect on...

Hi,
It sounds your Mitsubishi rear projection tv got problem with convergence output chips failure, I'm not aware about model number of this tv so unable to provide you specific info however, it is hardware failure and few parts need to be replaced by tv repairman.
Convergence output chips make align picture on front screen and if they stop working, you will see 3D look or bowed picture with different colors.
Contact local tv repair shop to fix this issue in tv.
Thanks.

Panasonic PT-47WXC43G green ONLY is bowed on bottom and top

Hi,
It still convergence chip problem, check big resistors nearby these chips that would be open or devalued and causing problem, specially in green convergence area, your green tube/ gun is just fine and just not getting convergence output signal to show correct image.
I would suggest to download service manual copy of this tv for small fee from any website and fix the issue with schematics help.
Thanks.

Cheap Fix?

I will strongly advise you to replace the two STK392-120 as a pair. and this will cure your bowing picture problem. You may need to re-converge your set. best of luck.
