I have had to replace the "pad" and now when I start the sander the screws (3) that hold the pad on tighten to the point the sander will not rotate. Any ideas?

The screws aren't maintaing thier "set" after tightening due to vibration which allows them to loosen and wallow out. Try some blue loctite on them next time. it should set the screws and still give you the ability to remove them when you need to. Marvin.
Thought about what my orbital sander is like, then went to a craft store and bought a large sheet/pad of velcro and cut it to fit the 6" rubber disc pad glued it to the pad and then bought hook and loop sanding discs. And you wondering why I didn't use my orbital sander?? Because I needed to get into tight spaces and the orbital sander is a bit too large for this, plus it's too heavy to use working overhead .

Not sure if this will work for you, but I had the same problem with my 330, it vibrated so much it felt like I was being electrocuted. I took the four screws holding the pad off and blew compressed air inside the sander to remove all the sawdust. Screwed the pad back on and now it works fine. Mine was only 5 years old with very little use.
You will find usually 3 torx drive screws on the bottom of the tool, remove them and the pad comes off. The replacement pad number is 151416-01 list 27.49. Let me know if I can help further
Usually there are 3 screws holding the plate to the eccentric assembly. The pad is formed to a metal plate and is sold as an assembly. You can go to Makitausa.com with the model number and get a replacement pad.
I'm not familiar with that particular model, but they are virtually all replaced the same way. There are a few screws through the pad into the base. Simply remove them and screw the new pad on. You'll see that it's quite simple once you get the new pad in your hands.
Just be careful not to strip the head of the screw: use the right size screwdriver tip.
