Canon zr300 ejects tapes

My canon zr300 mini dv camcorder keeps ejecting tapes, can't get a tape in to record or anything

Same problem - the compartment will close if there is no tape in it, but will not take the tape down in to the camera whenever I place a tape in it (tried several tapes).  When I place a tape in the cassette compartment and push it closed, the tape will make some humming noise, but will not attempt to take the tape down in to the camera body; then it will eject the tape.

I cannot play my recorded film

  • justnorml Mar 01, 2008

The camera won't take tapes down. Retracts and goes back down if tape is not present, but if I put any tape in it will make funny noise and eject tape without taking it in to the camera!

  • gus98a Mar 01, 2008

Same problem, it rejects the cassette after a few seconds and does not take it in.

  • melissa11 Mar 13, 2008

I am having the same problem as well...it won't take the tapes down...it will close without a tape in it though. I have a little red tape icon flashing on my screen when I turn the camera on.

It sounds like something happens to these cameras when they are about 3 years old...

I have never dropped it or really even used it that much...

There is a fix for this which was posted for either the ZR 200 or 400. They call it the "Fonzie" fix. Just hit the camcorder with your fist on the side where the tape goes in (with the door closed). Hit it lightly once, try inserting the tape. Repeat this process with increasing force each time until this works.

Surprisingly, this worked for me. Obviously, there must be something loose for this type of solution to work. I actually had it working once, then it acted up again. I tried the same solution and it's working again. No problems for several days now.

I just tried the "Fonzie" fix in my ZR300 and my camera now works - cassette compartment closes all the way now with the tape inserted. It just took one "hit" to fix the prolem. I was surprised. But ericemartin's solution is worth a try.

Great. It worked on my Canon MV 920. The customer care also told me to get a head cleaner. But the head cleaning cassette was also not loading. Now it is ok.

SOURCE: Canon zr300 ejects tapes

The solution for this required sending it to Canon factory service. I was very reluctant to do this because I've heard horror stories about Canon service, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. The total cost was only about $65 and the shipping and service turn around time was amazingly fast. I was expecting weeks to go by. If memory serves me right I shipped it and received it back in less than 2 weeks.

This is a known problem with Canon and would be covered under warranty if your time hasn't run out.

SOURCE: i cant eject my Panasonic NV-GS55 Mini DV Digital video cassette

Try ejecting cassette whilst powered from AC Adaptor. Secondly, try operating Eject from powered off mode. If operation LED starts flashing after any of these attempts, the mechanism is probably jammed or has become mis-timed. Unfortunately this requires professional intervention to avoid further damage to your equipment.
I hope this information is of assistance!

Canon ZR300 Mini DV Digital Camcorder THE MINI DV TAPE IT DOES NOT GO INSIDE THE CAMERA, SOUND LIKE IS GOING BUT IS EJECTED WITH A AUDIO WARNING AND IN THE VIEWFINDER SAY REMOVE THE TAPE AND A X APPEARS,...

I know this is going to sound strange. I had the same issue with my ZR300. When you insert a tape and close the mechinism you hear the tape whirl then it pops open and chimes. I found a solution online and thought it was to good to be true. It said to hold the camcorder in your left hand with the right side up (the opposite side of the fold out viewer). You then hit the camcorder , not real hard like slapping something. Open the door and insert the tape and WHAM! It loaded fine. Eight people had tried it according to the review and all eight people had success. I was skeptical but it works! Don't hit it so hard you break it. I did mine twice before it worked but it works everytime now. Trust me just try it and it will work.

Every time i put a tape in to play or record, it keeps ejecting it why??

Please be more specific. When you insert tape, the tape housing extract to its body, or it just stays still and eject your tape.

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for this solution posting. Really it worked. I was about to buy another one instead of fixing the problem. Because you know how the pain is, to send it factory and getting it repaired.

Once again Thank you.
