I would ike to use my old Astra 2400S scanner with my new iMac (OS 10.6.2 - Snow Leopard) which I believe is not compatable with this scanner. I have Windows XP running through Bootcamp, for which I understand there is an available driver. My problem is that I am having trouble finding a way to hook the scanner up to the computer in the first place. Is there a specific [kind/brand] SCSI to USB cable or other kind of conversion device I can get to make this work? If so, what is it and where do I get it? Thanks for any help!!! :)
You need a Firewire/ SCSI adapter. Mine is a Belkin F5U541. Then simply connect a SCSI cable from the scanner to the adapter & a Firewire cable from the adapter to your Mac. I'm using my old Umax Astra 2400S w/ a G5 iMac running OSX 10.6.7. I had to upgrade my old copy of VueScan, however, to run on Snow Leopard
There is also a USB to Serial adapter. Look for USB to DB25 in the description somewhere. But good luck finding software for the scanner that works, the Astra 2400s is not supported anymore it seems.
