If you have confirmed that the remote's IR emitters have failed and you are out of the warranty period (1 yr), you have a few choices. You can contact Logitech. They will usually issue a 50% discount on a new remote. Or, you can try to repair the remote yourself using the guidance in this article: http://hubpages.com/hub/HowToFixaLogitechHarmony880Remote
Or, you can have it repaired for $14 (or less if you haggle) from this Ebay seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/We-can-Repair-your-Harmony-880-Remote_W0QQitemZ200437939363QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2eab083ca3
Good luck!
Try the camera test to see if the IR emitter doesn't work anymore.
The remote has stopped controlling certain devices (i.e. some work, some do not)
i. Please try the following:
ii. Replace with fresh batteries
iii. Update the Firmware in the remote
iv. Update the configuration
v. Test the remote
*Try using a Digital Camera, webcam, or cell phone camera to see if the IR LEDs are still working
i. Turn on the camera and point the remote at the lens – the LEDs will blink when buttons are pressed
ii. Check the digital camera display, computer monitor, or cell phone display to see if the LEDs are blinking
If the LED's do blink the issue has nothing to do with the IR sending. how long have you had this remote?
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
