I'd try replacing the battery first. It is common for a low power battery to not allow the camera's computer to read what it is supposed to do correctly. If the new fully charged battery doesn't fix it, I'd then contact customer service.
I have the same camera. It sounds to me that there is a fault with the camera itself and not the battery. You might be better sending Canon an email and asking them. My battery lasts forever so I would think if you already purchased another battery you've eliminated that problem. It might be the contacts inside the camera that are not accepting the full charge. Does the camera battery on screen show that it's full after you've charged it? Maybe trying charging it overnight and then trying it out the next day.
extreme hot/cold effects battery life...also # events, whether pics taken or not 2 million gray Ark. squirrels, that never stop moving like red squirrels will use up batteries in a hurry...even still I get 3-4 mos out of 6-dcells on my I-40s
www.needbattery.com sells all kinds of batteries and they are warranteed for a year. They will have your battery. And are one of the cheapest stores to get batteries on the net.
Unfortunately this camera is very bad for battery life because the zoom lens itself takes up alot of power. I would have the same problem with putting fresh batteries in and they would only last a couple of minutes.
I went to Blacks and asked their opinion and they suggested a Lithium Ion battery which came with the charger.
The charge only takes 30 minutes and I have been using my camera all week and the batteries are still going strong!
The price for the pack and charger together was a about $29 and it was totally worth the money
This happens with almost all digital cameras. You have a couple options. first you can buy lithium batteries, which are a little more expensive but last considerably longer in digital cameras.
The second is you can buy rechargeable batteries, which in my opinion is the best option because you can reuse them, and they also last really long in digital cameras.
the problem is, you just cant really put normal batteries in digital cameras. Lame but true
You need to begin using rechargeable batteries immediately.
Look for nickle metal hydride (NiMH) cells that are at least 1800 mah and preferrably more than 2000 mah. Get two sets and a charger. Print this and take it with you.
You can buy these at any electronics store.
You'll need to charge the batteries before you can use them. And they don't really give you full life until they've been charged and discharged a couple of times. In other words, the first few times, you'll get a shorter life cycle before they run down.
But you should see a marked improvement almost immediately.
