I am attempting to record from a VCR tape to

I have a Magnavox MWR20V6 and I am attempting to record from a VCR tape to a DVD+RW disk. I have lost the original manual and only have the "Quick Guide", which does not cover this operation. It will not start recording when in the VCR Mode playing the tape by pushing the record button, nor will it start the DVD tape running or show to be recording when I set the record speed and then push the record button while in the DVD mode.

Have been using DVD&RW disks for years now they won't format, no matter what brand.

Do you mean finalise the dvd record; its different from format on the PC? Finalise is in the setup of the combo.

Have a Magnavox MWR20V6 - have a few things going on, one the power shutting off automatically when i put the vcr on timer and therefore does not record, and 2 vhs tapes that are almost new, gets stuck

Junk it. It's identical to Funai WV20V6. I can't remember exactly what is causing the shutdown. But, I do remember that it says it can't be fixed. Read other posts here at Fixya.

My disc records fine, plays great on the Magnavox, but no other player can read the disc?

You must finalize a disc before it can play on other machines. Please refer to your documentation for how to finalize a disc.

I need help converting vhs tapes to dvd+r

If you have both a VCR and DVD recorder there is no problem. Just connect the A/V output from the VCR to the A/V input of the DVD recorder. Start the tape and press record on the DVD recorder. (these connection are RCA type ans coloured white, red, abd yellow. Just connecxt them colour to colour. Couldn't be simpler. When the recording finishes, transfer to an optical disk. After finalizing, the VOB files from the optical disk can be converted to mpeg4 or any other format you desire using your PC.

jamesgranger - I think your DVD recorder is still having trouble reading the DVD+RW. It should not have a problem using a DVD+RW many times. Try taking the DVD+RW and put it in your computer. Find it in Explorer, right-click and choose "Erase". Then try to record to it using the DVD recorder again. If it works, you can use this to record, though it might be a pain.

The fact that your machine will record to the +R means that it works. Failing to work (record or erase) on the +RW means it's not reading it well. I would try running the lens cleaner again if it were mine. Also, I would make sure that the unit didn't have a lot of dust in it. If you can, power it off and use some spray-air to be sure there's no dust. You may have cleaned the lens, but if there's a lot of dust inside the unit, it will quickly find it's way back to the lens and you'll have the same problem. Michael
