Screen goes black but still sound

My 32' LG LED TV has suddenly lost picture! The sound is all right but the Screen is pitch black. After switching it on the picture flashes for a second and then the screen goes completely black.

Oct 9, 2012 - Brightness goes down, display draws less juice, and you can at least use .... it's the LCD's Inverter ... you have to replace it for it to go back to ... Capacitors on the power pack are going bad they need to be replaced that should fix the problem.

Sounds like power supply. Probably time for a new tv. You have already got almost 20 years service.

turn up your master screen control on flyback transformer. if when sceen gos black ,the timer light will be blinking. this means your picture tube is week. by turning up the screen control you may give it more time.

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
