Its probebly the main bearing. disconect the power and remove the back. then slide the belt off the big pulley. if you see alot of brown splatter you know its the bearing.if not with the belt removed go to the front and open the door spin the drum fast, if it makes the same noise its the rear bearing.

Mine was really loud until we discovered the unbalance switch problem which caused my washer to stop spinning completely. We found that a block of stabilizer styrofoam was supposed to sandwich this switch between it and the wash drum had slipped out. Once replaced the washer was MUCH quieter.
Hello - - I am in a jam and could use your help. I am repairing a neptune washer - - - front and rear bearings. When I opened the machine up I found a block of styrofoam sitting loose in the machine. I also found a small switch on the bottom of the washer floor (two blue wires connected to it). You elude to the block and switch.... I can't find info on how these items are supposed to sit in the washer anywhere on the web. Can you help me?
