In your cylinder head you have a broken reed or valve as some call them. I assume you have checked for a broken line or an open discharge valve? This is generally an easy fix and parts are mostly easy to obtain from your neighborhood NAPA.

SOURCE: air compressor fills, but slows down as the pressure builds

sounds like you need a new check valve which should be somewhere between the compressor outlet piping, tubing, etc and the tank which prevents the air in tank to back feed to the compressor which would cause hard starting and could damage the motor easy way to check is when you shut off the compressor with some air in the tank if the check valve is bad it would continue to bleed air out out the unloader valve .the unloader valve on your unit is most likely part of the pressure switch when the unit shuts of it should only bleed down the pressure in the pump so it would make it easy to start when needed hope i didn't confuse you

SOURCE: craftsman 1 gallon direct drive oil filled wont build air pressure

It sounds like you may have a broken reed on the diaphragm plate. This is located at the block. Remove the cover, and look for a cast metal assembly with fins. It will be attached to the side.

SOURCE: air compressor slow to build air pressure.

you might need to checktosee if the filter is blocked or dirty were the air intake is just like a car dirt can build up there.

Charge air pro model ir330e20 builds pressure to only 60 psi and will not stop running

Cbillgreene:

Your compressor is leaking air somewhere between the compressor head and the tank. With the compressor running, feel carefully around the ends of the tube that leads from the compressor head to the air tank. You will probably feel some air leaking around one end or the other. If so... remove the tube and find out which packing has failed.

My Porter Cable Job Boss compressor won't shut off. It builds up pressure but just continually runs.

Pressure switch - replace as soon as possible
Overpressure would be possible in that tank - it is dangerous !

Air compressor slow to build pressure, and noisy.

All large air compressors are very noisy.

How long it takes to come up to pressure depends on the size of the compressor piston(s), how fast they are running and the size of the air tank attached to it. (and if the tank or hoses have leaks)
A 20 gallon tank could easily take 10 minutes to get all the way up to 120 psi. 120 is very high, and probably the limit for the compressor. Depending on what you're using it for, try dropping the setting to say 80-90psi.

Compressor will only build pressure to 75 psi and stop and compressor keeps running what could be wrong

If you can hear air bleeding off through the air filter when you turn it off then the check valve has failed on the compressor discharge to tank line and cannot overcome the tank pressure. If there is no air coming out through the air filter than the intake and dischare valves have become weak or are broken/not seating. Post your findings, I wil see if i can help I worked on compressors for 5+ years

My 1 hp. 12 gal. air compressor is not building air pressure the motor runs the pressure won't go above 20 lb.

It could be that the input air filter is badly clogged. I might more likely be that the Non-return valve on the air tank input is not sealing properly and not allowing the tank to build up pressure. This valve is at the end of the main pipe runs between the compressor and tank. It could also mean (less likely) that the poppet valves inside the compressor cylinder head are not sealing properly. Other faults could be worn rings on the compressor pistons or a bad seal between the compressor cylinder head and block.

To check the Non return valve allow compressor to build up some pressure and then loosen union nut on Non return valve. There should be some air released at first but should stop if valve is ok. If leaking remove valve and check for dirt and clean. If valve still leaks replacement is the only fix.

Pressure will not build up in the tank and the silver tubing gets extremely hot.

There is a moisture release valve under the tank that may have been left open. If so, close it and the pressure will build. The reason the tubing heats up is because it is running so long.

Wont build air pressure

Your problem falls into one of two categories the first is the tank is leaking the second is the compressor is leaking. Try this run the compressor for a minute or two and turn it off if to hear a hiss the tapers off slowly your tank is leaking some were check the drain on the bottom of the tank, the pressure relief valve on the top or side of the tank and all other connections between the compressor and tank.

In the event there is no hiss this means the problem is the compressor you may have a bad reed valve or a bad check valve depending on the type of compressor.

hope this helps

Compressor runs hot and won't build pressure

THE COPPER LINE IS SUPPOSED TO GET HOT, SCALDING HOT ACTUALLY. THE MOST COMMON REASON FOR COMPRESSORS NOT BUILDING PRESSURE IS CLOGGED AIR FILTER OR THE VALVES IN THE HEAD ARE BROKEN OR NOT OPENING AND CLOSING CORRECTLY. YOU MAY POSSIBLY HAVE A BAD AIR LEAK DOWNSTREAM BUT YOU CAN CLOSE THE DISCHARGE VALVE ON THE TANK TO ELIMINATE THAT PROBLEM. HOPE THIS HELPS OR GET YOU STARTED.

Husky comp on 1st start builds up 75 lbs and wont restart

Check the reset button on the motor to see if it tripped. The motor may be overheating. Some motors have an internal breaker and they have to cool off before they restart. Also check the pressure switch. Move the switch back and forth ( on and off ) and listen for a click. If it doesn't click with low to no air pressure then the switch is bad.
