I bought my cool mist humidifier humidifier about a month ago. After one months use I changed the filter after I noticed it started to take on a slightly orange/yellow tint and was not absorbing the water as it should. The filter was wet at the bottom where it was sitting in the water (obviously) but was not wicking the water to the top of the filter. Not even halfway up the filter!
I changed the filter following all the direction about pre-soaking, etc. But I am having the same problem with the new filter with it not wicking the water up the filter after about 30 minutes of use. I tried turning the fan down to the lowest setting thinking that maybe I was just pushing it too hard. But I have the same problem on the lowest setting. I used the name brand filters that were being sold with the humidifier at Target.
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, did you ever get any resolution to it? I am cleaning my humidifier according to the directions and I filter my water before I put it in the humidifier. Someone please help me!
How long are you going between filter changes?
A filter that stops wicking water up and turns orange/yellow is one full of deposits.
It sounds like you have hard water. How are you filtering this water before you use it? Distilled water is the best.
Replace the filter. They don't last forever. Mine normally last a month to a month and a half.
Good Luck
We have the same problem on our Kenmore. Since the unit is brand new, we just flipped the filter over after giving it a good soaking first. We feel the humidity rise immediately but not sure how long this will last.
