There is a fan at the back which could be hitting something. You would hear the noise nearly continuously.
There is a compressor motor at the back. If you hear the noise just when the compressor starts and stops That's usually mounts inside thecompressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with thenoisejust wait for it to
quit before replacing thecompressoror getting a new
fridge. You may have a motherboard on the back which can make noise. You'll need to roll the unit out from the wall to see where the noise is coming from and remove part of the cardboard backing to get access to the compressor and fan.
Hello, your refridgerator in most likely in defrost cycle. the noise your hearing is the water dripping on the hot heater and ice dropping off the evaporator. should only last 15 minutes and then your all set. Mike
the problem you are having is in the main control board. ge has had a problem with this part causing the fan motor to go into high and low speed which causes the howling noise. unfortunately it is a costly fix, around $125 for the part. if you are savy to changing this part it is a matter of unplgging about 5 connections and replugging them. the new board has an extra set of pin that nothing connects to. READ the instuctions and it is a simple fix, saving about $50-60 in labor costs.
