Sharp XR-10X projector. Makes a loud whirring noise when trying to turn on. Bulb starts to turn on then doesn't. It's not the fans because I opened up the projector, disconnected the fans and it still makes the noise. Sometime it comes on while it makes the noise and then the noise stops. Sometimes I get a lamp error(blinking red lamp indicator) sometime I get the temperature red LED blinking. Bulb has been replaced and timer reset. Did not fix the problem.

Check your air filter, maybe it's all dusty and makes poor air cooling, and you need to reset time (hour) counter in projector menu

first, make sure you have the correct lamp. the lamp for the xr-10x-l looks like the xr-10x, but the plugs are different (common mistake). make sure you have the AN-XR10L2/1, not the AN-XR10LP/1. to reset the lamp timer (with the projector plugged in but off), hold down the enter, down arrow, and menu buttons and press the power.

use canned air and blow every bit of dust out of every vent and hole. if you want to, you can remove the top (6 screws on the bottom, and the 2 top screws on the back) and blow dust out that way. i could also be a power supply problem. from excessive heat, the capacitors on the ps dry up and don't work as they should, causing shutdown.

if you plug it in and turn it on, you should at least hear fans running, then it'll shut down because there is no lamp. that's about it.

sharp has two identical models
sharp xr10x & the newer model xr10xl.both the lamps look alike , however both have a different rating & reverse connector!!
i.e both cannot be interchanged!however if u have the old xr10x & if u try to fit the new bulb which is lower in wattage, it will explode in 20 mins
if you have bought a used projector , then u wont know if someone has interchanged the ballast!!
as this model was discontinued 2 years back!!!!
so confirm the model , it is mentioned under sharp name or at the bottom

You will need to open it up and flip this little breaker switch. It has gotten to hot and tripped itself. Dust it out while you are in there.

Make and enclosure to surround the projector everywhere except the lense, put a fan (muffin fans are nice) in the side with a nice big filter on its inlet side blowing into your box and wire it so its on when the projector is. A source of cool air would be nice instead of that hot stuff up by the ceiling. Yes, heat is way bad for projectors.

Please give some more details, Also tell that ur lamp glows or not after fans operates.open the lamp unit and see the condition of inner tube, if that is abnormal then you have to replace lamp again. if it is tuning of and on repeatingly then there is some problem with DMD module.

the unit has an internal timer , this has happened to me several times  , i changed bulbs thinking that was the problem , when the bulb timer reaches 2000 hrs or the if you change bulbs and dont reset it the machine will not respond , check your manual and reset the timer
