Yes, VERY frustrating! When this has happened to me it has always turned out to be a tiny bit of thread caught in the bobbin assembly. I've rethreaded and rethreaded but could only solve the problem by taking the bobbin assembly apart and finding and removing the caught thread. I use a bright flashlight to help find the caught threads.

Good luck and I sure hope this helps!

Where to apply oil to shuttle on White model 2037. I thoroughly cleaned all parts of the machine, rewound bobbins, made sure presser foot was up and rethreaded machine, still getting birdnesting under

If the birdnesting is on the bottom of fabric it is the top tension. If the birdnesting is in the bobbin area I would check the bobbin tension. When adjusting the bobbin tension make sure you are turning the screw in very tiny increments.

Check to make sure the machine is threaded properly and then check again. It is often times something simple.

Fixing the problem of birdnesting

Birdnesting is a common but very frustrating problem that can be resolved easily once you know where the problem originates. Remember, if the birdnesting occurs on the underside of the fabric, the problem originates with the upper thread. If it shows on the top of the fabric, the problem is the bobbin.

Very often, the machine is not threaded correctly. Remove all the thread from the machine. Check there are no loose threads or lint stuck anywhere in the machine. Oil as instructed in the manual.

Install a brand new needle! The needle should be suitable for the thread and fabric you are using. All About Needles

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the upper thread. Verify the path is correct.

Check that the bobbin is installed and threaded properly.

Pull the bobbin thread to the top of the fabric.
How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

Set the upper tension to the midway point.

While holding both thread tails lightly in your left hand, begin sewing slowly.

Bobbin thread looping...It was sewing fine then all of a sudden it started looping. I am sending a picture via email to see.

No picture, but I'm guessing that if you check the thread again, it is actually the upper thread that is looping under the fabric (generally referred to as bird nesting or thread nesting). The cause is usually incorrect threading or upper tension is too loose. Sometimes, the upper thread will "jump" out of a thread guide while sewing, usually the take up lever, and the result is called birdnesting.

Make sure you are using a brand-new needle.

Check that the bobbin area, under the needle plate, and the feed dogs do not have a build-up of lint, etc.

Remove the thread. Always RAISE the presser foot (so the thread will seat properly in the tension disk) and rethread from the beginning verifying that every guide has been followed in the thread path.

Set the upper tension at the midway point between low & high number.

Re-test your machine. You may need to fine-tune the upper tension until it is where it should be, ie upper & bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

My machine is making "birdnests" after sewing a

Sorry, but it is in your threading. If, it is underneath birdnesting, it is the top threading. If, on top, it is the bobbin threading. Do this test, with presser foot up, pull thread, it should pull smoothly, now lower presser foot, the thread should barely move. This should seat your thread in the tension discs. Also, a needle wouldn't hurt when you rethread.

Singer 5430C bobbins thread always loopy

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

I have a singer-inspiration machine and it appears that the thread keeps getting caught up in the bobbin area so my thread birdnests. I am new to sewing and this is a new machine.
