40H80 Toshiba Rear Projection TV

The Problem

1. The first couple problem events - the picture sort of warped really weird then it went back to normal. This was over a few days.

2. About a week or so after the first problem events the picture started going to a sort of rolling lines flashing deal after a few minutes after turning on the TV. After cooling a bit it would refresh and do the same thing again. Sometimes it would go back to normal.

3. The TV still usually works for a few minutes but it has gotton worse in that it just goes blank after some flashing and stays blacked out until the next time we turn it on later. Also, now the sound even goes off with the picture most of the time.

I've turned this problem in before once with a little less description. The reply was a little less than I had hoped for.

It sounds as if it is solder related, bur hard to say for sure. You ay need a service manual to actually trouble shootthe power supply and opeating circuits. I will post a lnk where you can get a service manual emailed to you

Sound, No Picture

The only thing you can do is to unplug the tv for 30 min. Then turn it back on and see if that fixed it. If not call a repair man, you are most likely missing a power supply voltage or deflection voltage.

Toshiba 40H80 - Turns on . . . wigs out for about 30-seconds . . . shuts off.

A convergence problem is very commond. In most cases the convergence output amplifer IC's need to be replaced. This is not something you should do. Call a repair shop.

No pic but sound :/

You are having a high voltage problem. Quite possibly in the horizontal deflection. I would check the horizontal output and regulator transistors.

40H80 Problem TV will not switch to non antenna inputs

Sounds like you have a bad tuner. It is not uncommon for solder joints to deteriorate over a period of time and loose continuity. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can try to fix it yourself but I really recommend leaving it to a professional.
