Blurry vertical lines with no focus on screen

I put a new tape in my sony dcr-hc18e the other day, but when I went to record, all i could see was blurry vertical lines on the screen. You can move the camera around and they do change colour etc and they do change when you zoom in.If I record all I get is the same blurry images. If I put another tape with images already on it, it plays back fine.I have been storing the camcorder on top of a recording dvr(cctv) when it's charging-is it possible that the heads have been magnetized or something? While taping I believe it said something on the screen about cleaning. And horizontal grey lines are across the camera. I changed the tape and the same lines are there.

Sony DCR- HC18E Camcorder

Hello there, you are not alone in this problem, I get 100's of other people write on this matter, the tape head cleaners sold are mostly a bit of non abrasive tape type stuff that would not clean a bit of dust off a shiny table, let alone a dirty camera head.
You need to get a proper head cleaning kit with the tape that looks like a white flat shoe lace, run that for 30 sec in camera in seconds your heads will be like new.

Sony DCR-HC18E, the backlight on the LCD screen will not light up, it does record but you can't see what you are recording and can hardly see the on screen function / menus. Pressing the backlit buttons...

Hi,
If you close lcd screen in its position, do you see image in eye piece (view finder) ?
If yes, then replace flexible ribbon connecting wire between camera board and lcd board to get picture in lcd screen.
Let me know if you need part number of flexible ribbon wire.
Thanks.

Hi my sony dcr-hc18e camcorder plays back but doesnt record

Hello,
Unfortunately you're going to need to get some repairs done to your device, the reasoning behind the black screen on recording mode is that one of the many pieces responsible for bringing the image from start to finish has become mis-aligned.
It's either going to be the CCD sensor that has shifted or one of the lenses is slightly off angle and is sending the image off into a wall on the inside of the camcorder.
Estimated repair cost is going to be in the range of $200 USD.
Best of luck with this!
