I need help getting the receiver to recognize and initiate sound when the TV, Cable, DVD and receiver are turned on
You should be able to find all the instructions for these connections in your products owners manuals. The procedure should be straight forward. all the connections to the receiver should be input and output connections. The Receiver is basically just a switch box and amplifier with extras. You must make sure you know which input and output you are using for each of the components. You must have all the remote controls set-up to work with each other. The receiver is the master switch. From it you will control all input sources to the various output sources. Here is a possible set-up . Television output sound and video to the first input/ output section of the receiver. from here you can use the first audio/video output to your dvd/vcr input. This will allow you to record the television programs video and audio to your recording media. The audio/video output of the dvd/vcr will be connected to the second input /output of the receiver. With the second input you can view all the dvd/vcr materials on the television while listening to the sound through your receiver. The master output of the receiver's audio/video output is connected to the television input circuit. This will allow viewing and sound from all the units connected to the receiver. The receiver sound system will receive sound from all the input units as long as the connection are right and the input/out selections from the remotes controls are correct. That is the reason the owners manuals are so important for this purpose. They give these instructions and diagrams to show you the correct procedures for setting them up.They also give you information about customer support either with website help or a call in line for technical assistance.I hope this helps you with your problem.
