DMR-E50 DVD recorder versus DMR-ES15 are these equivalent recorders

Hello I have a DMR-E50, that has been repaired 6 times due to recording fault. The store are finally going to replace it with a Panasonic DMR-ES15.
My question is this, is this unit an equivalent unit.  I currently have a Harmon Kardon Receiver AVR 135, Loewe TV 100 Mhz and Sansui digital receiver.

The DMR-ES15 is a later model (around 2006/07) than the DMR-E50 (2003/04), but essentially both should do the same job so technically - a good equivalent in terms of recording and same brand so yes. The connections on the rear (of the replacement recorder) should suit and work with your other devices just as the old one did.

According to some other online reviews, the DMR-E50 has had a few issues with recording, and finalizing certain discs.

I'd say go for it - accept the replacement - as long as it comes with some kind of guarantee, works fully and has all the accessories (including remote, instructions etc.) you should be good. Contact the store and seal the deal.

I hope you can get this in time for Christmas.

SOURCE: Problem with Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES15

With a soft cloth, clean the 'hole' area of a DVD that you know worked in the past. Sometimes oils from our fingers get on the disc and then the disk can't spin properly. If the problem persists, open the case and look for two failed capacitors. (See similar solutions on this website.)

Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder startup failure

The unit failed during self check, probably the power regulation board. A check by a qualified TV/VCR repair person is in order.

DMR-ES15 Stops after 45 Min.

U88 means the unit has detected an error while recording or playing and has entered its recovery process to restore the unit to normal operation. You could try using a DVD-RAM disk or a different make of DVD-R but, as you say the unit is new, you should probably return it to the retailer for exchamge, repair or refund according to unit age and retailer's return policy.

Dmr-es15

My DMR-ES15, dvd recorder is showing a U-61 code, I'd done all the instructions on my user manual. I think the problem is lost of memory. How can I get it back working. If I have to change chip of memory what is the part No., and how much will cost me in US dollars. Thanking you in advance.

DMR-E50 DVD RECORDER

Hi
That's very strange, I have not seen a Panasonic do that before.
There are two things I would try.

1) Remove the batteries from the remote controller. This will rule out the possibility of the buttons making contact due to moisture or a fault in the controller. Then see if the problem occurs.

2) Unplug the power cable from the DVD recorder and leave it disconnected for at least 30 minutes before reconnecting it. This will reset your machine in case something has been corrupted.

3) When you have reconnected it, check the programme settings to make sure they are all clear.

4) Your machine could be picking up some radio interference if there is a transmitter close by. This is an unlikely cause, but if you suspect it, try plugging your machine into a different power socket and re-route the connection cables.

This particular model, like numerous Panasonics, suffers with an overheating regulator on the power board. They almost all fail from about two years onwards. The regulator gets very hot during normal operation and is not adequately protected from thermal runnaway. Regulator faults can cause a number of problems such as continuous self checking, switching off, and not reading certain discs. I have not known the regulator to cause unprovoked recording, but there can always be a first time. If the regulator is causing problems, the unit is easy for an engineer to repair. I can provide information on how to repair faulty Panasonic regulators if you need it.

Best wishes
