It appears your magnetron or MCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Kenmore Elite Microwave model 72179202010 turntable and fan stopped working. Digital display and interior light still work. What is the problem?

Best to have a qualified service tech check all of the door safety/monitor switches, most likely one of those are bad, if they check out, you could have a bad relay on the control board. PleazerAppliance...

Kenmore Elite Microwave oven 63792 doesn't heat - all lights, turntable, fan, etc. work just fine.

Most likely it would be a bad magnetron since the light, turntable, and vent fan are running.

My still fairly new kenmore 1000 watt microwave appears to be operating fine but doesnt heat. What might be the problem?

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

Post a new help request with the answers to these questions as well as the full model number from the tag on or in the unit.

Kenmore elite microwave model 721.79203010 problems

I'd check to make sure you don't have a door switch that isn't functioning properly. Also, might be a control panel or control panel interface issue.

Microwave no longer heats up food

A model number would help us help you pretty specifically, but without it, here's a generic answer.

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose or corroded connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron
- shorted high voltage diode

If the inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan are not working, then it's probably a door switch. See my door switch help file here.

If the inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan are working, then the problem is likely in the high voltage section.

In that case, here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

MICROWAVE NOT HEATING

Most likely you have a magnetron problem. Easy to replace (DYI) but make sure the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged first against the case.

DISPLAY AND TIMER STILL WORK BUT DOES NOT HEAT

To allow us to help you at no charge, please post a NEW question, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, as well as the answers to these questions:

When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave not heating

OK, you have two components that are faulty. the magnetron and the turntable motor as well. replacing these two components will fix both issues.
