I have installed my Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 headset on my computer and it worked perfectly... but now when I am trying to go back to using my speakers, nothing will play through the speakers.
I have changed it (my speakers) over to my default device again and yet nothing comes out. When I plug the headset back in, the music is still playing in the headset.

With the infamous Vista, try:
Start --> Control panel --> Hardware and sound --> Sound --> Audio devices admin [I have a Spanish OS, I hope it is the same in the English version], then assign as default device the headset.
With Skype and other sw, you have to specifically pick the lx-3000 as the device that will be used as audio device (and the same has to be done to use the mic).
