A few days ago I tried to turn wd-62827 set on and it acted like it would turn on, but instead it went dead and the red lamp light came on. Assuming it was the lamp (after two years of use) I ordered a new lamp and installed it. I of course happened to unplug the main power to replace the lamp and when I had it back together it started up just fine. The next day I was watching it and it shutoff again and the red lamp light came back on and the tv would not turn back on. On a hunch I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in and waited for the green light to stop flashing. I turned it on and it works great. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks!
There are 6 capacitors in the power supply that fail on this tv. Two are 3300@16v, and four are 1000@16v. They should be replaced with hi temp capacitors.
I did reset the lamp timer, but same problem. It will usually come back on for a period of a few hours or days and then shutoff. Thanks.
Did you reset the lamp timer? just a guess

sskellen - so the technician came back out and replaced the balast, but it did not fix the problem. However, when he continued to trouble shoot he pulled out the main power board and discovered an errant wire on the board that had not been trimmed down during production and had bent over and shorted the output to the balast. He bent the wire up, trimmed it and the TV works reliably again! I hope this helps some of you as I can imagine this QA/QC problem being more wide spread.
I am having the same problem right after installing a new lamp
