If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

I assume that your model number starts with a 110 instead of 100.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.26842692

Look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

See the part "Dog, agitator "

Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Following is an illustrated description of the above.

Agitator on GE topload dual action moving in one direction

The Agitator In your washer has two parts. The bottom half will move back and forth. The top half (spindle) will move in one direction (clockwise). Most of the scrubbing or washing is done by the bottom half of the agitator. The spindle is responsible for pulling the clothes down from the center and sending them to the bottom where they will be scrubbed. As the clothes circulate, they will all be washed.

It leaves soap on the clothes after it goes thru the cycle and I noticed that the top part of the agitator doesn't move hardly. The washers model # is LSR8233JQO and the serial # is CK4729250, Type 111.

The agitator dogs (part # 80040) that grip and turn the top agitator to push the clothes into the bottom agitator during the wash cycle are worn and must be replaced. It costs about $5 and replacing it is an easy task to do.

Disconnect the power to the washer. Open the lid and remove the agitator cap by prying it with a flat-bladed screwdriver off the agitator top. Remove the 7/16 inch stud and seal holding the agitator to the shaft using a socket wrench with extension.

Lift the agitator off the shaft and pull the top agitator off the bottom agitator. Remove the cam that holds the agitator dogs from the top agitator.

Lay the cam upside down and install the agitator dogs on the slots. Hold the cam with the newly installed agitator dogs on one hand and the top agitator upside down on the other. Slide the cam up into the top agitator and turn the assembly in the upright position.

Align the cam and bottom agitator tabs and cut-outs and place the top agitator with the cam over the bottom agitator. Place the agitator assembly on the shaft and rotate it until the grooves match. Push the agitator down and reinstall the stud and seal. Do not over tighten the stud or the agitator will not spin properly.

Agitator: bottom moves, top does not

On the Sears parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26902691&pop=flush

replace the 110.26902691 with your model number (lift the lid and the model number should be printed on the cabinet) and look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

This is what they look like:

pd_26_110_80040?$pddetailsth$ #21 on diagram Dog, agitator (4) Number:3366877Substitution:80040 $9.25Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Kenmore 90 series agitation problem

suppose to not spin unitl the lid is closed( safety reasons) the reason for the "weak agitation " is a bad set of agitator dogs. by removing the center fabric softener cup, you can get to and unscrew the center shaft bolt7/16. after removing the bolt, the agitaor will remove and the agitator dogs canbe replaced. part number 80040.youll need to split the agitator top and bottom to insall them . they simply slide into place.

My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Sounds like what you have is a dual agitator, bottom moves back and forth in wash, top acts like a screw pulling clothes down to the bottom of the tub. If so, the agitator dogs are bad, to get to them, pop off the cap on top of the agitator, then reach down inside and pull up a cap in there, then use a socket (I forget the size) and a long extension to unbolt the agitator and pull it out, the dogs are located between the top and bottom sections. They are slightly curved rubbery plastic pieces, 4 total. About an 1 1/2" or so long, one end fits into a hole on the inner part of the agitator and the other end is ribbed to catch the outer part of the agitator during the wash stroke.
