GE Profile JGB97 Self Cleaning Oven Controls won't work

All of a sudden, the digital oven controls wouldn't work any longer. I can't activate the bake, broil, timer settings, or even change the clock. There's still power to the controls because the clock is still correctly working. The only response I get is when I hit the "clear/off" button, it beaps. All other buttons are inactive. I tried unplugging the unit hoping it would somehow reset itself, but no help. Is there maybe a fuse or something seperate from the clock that works these controls? And if it's something like the heating element, then why wont' the oven timer even activate?

The self cleaning was in operation, 3/4 the way through the process...the digital screen started displaying 888 8888 across it. I've tried using the manual and nothing works...I've turned off at the circuit...it still displaye the same message. The door has unlocked and the oven is turned off....
Nothing works. The stove works and the lights on the stove works but nothing is working to help activate the inside of the oven.
Any Suggestions?

A few of my touch control panel buttons do not work on my GE JT952. A couple of number buttons (#'s 6 & 7) and the lower oven buttons on the right (Start, Oven Light, Broil & Delay Start) do not work. Any thoughts?

You have a problem that may be solved with my solution to the Dreaded F7 Problem. Even though you don't have a F7 error on the display the symptoms are all the same. You can find my fix at the following links.

I have shared this with more than 1550 folks and most report success. This problem often develops after a self clean cycle.
I hope it works for you too. Please let me know at the following:

I have a JT955 GE Profile 30"double oven...when the food is cooked, and I press "clear/Off", the oven won't shut off...continues to maintain temperature? Tonight, I had to shut it off,...

Your wall oven has two main components that control the oven. The main control computer and the user interface. Your problem is probably in the user interface, although it could be the main control or both. I have had some success cleaning the ribbon that connects the user interface to the control with a little rubbing alcohol. That only works some of the time though. Due to the fact that the oven works except for the cancel button I would lean towards replacing the user interface if cleaning the ribbon dose not work.

The LOC on messsage appears on the screen when we go toturn the oven on. NEED the OVEN. What could we do to fi it?

The control lock has been activated. This feature is useful when you are cleaning the panel so that you don't accidently start the oven or the self-cleaning cycle. Try pressing Bake and Broil Hi/Lo together for 2 seconds (or a bit longer). SF should appear in the display. Then press Self Clean and Start. (When you press Self Clean the LOC message should disappear.)

Manuals for most GE appliances are available here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . Enter the model number and click Submit. The direct link to the manual for the JTP18WWWW is: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=981140017.PDF .

I hope this helps.

Self cleaning oven help

There is nothing wrong with cleaning a self-cleaning oven. Now, I don't have experience with your speicific oven, but I do have experience with other self-cleaning ovens. The self-clean function simply heats the oven up really hot. The actual temperature varies but the oven will get hotter than the hottest temperature setting. What happens is that when it get that hot it actually burns up spilled food and crumbs. sometimes in mine I even see small flames. The oven usually requires you to lock it as well since the temperature will be so high. Eventually you have to clean out the burnt "ashes" which are basically the stuff you get on food if you burn it. So the answer to what happens if you clean the oven is that you get a clean oven, nothing else. It won't hurt the oven at all. As a matter of fact even if you use the self-cleaning feature you will eventually have to clean out the "burnt crumbs" and such by hand anyway. So self-cleaning oven are designed to be cleaned by hand as well. And you won't hurt it by doing so even if you did it every day.
