I just bought a Sony 52" XBR5. When I hook up the Motorola cable box to the TV using the DVI-D to HDMI cable the picture and sound look great. After about 20 minutes to 1hr the picture goes black but the sound is still heard. The only way to get the picture back is to turn the tv off and back on. Tried switching boxes, cables and HDMI ports, problem still occurs. Never happens on the component cables.
Had a neighbor buy the same tv and his does the same thing.
Is it Motorola's problem is it Sony's problem. Not having alot of luck getting to a resolution.
Anyone else ever hear of this happening?
Thanks
Frank C.
I think this has to do with the cable box not liking the encryption thing going on with the sony tv. The cable boxes probably don't understand it fully and therefore you have intermittant problems. I would just use component inputs. Which are analog and no encryption problems. I hope this was helpful. I bet it doesn't happen using a sony DVD Player or a blue ray DVD Player either. Sony, Sony, Sony.....Good stuff...but they have their moments. Let me know if u come up with a fix for this and then i will post it on my fix it list.. Thank you again..GURU JAY
WAIT ON NEW CABLE BOX !!!!!!!!!!
You are not alone! After a week with my 3808 and Sony 52', and experience the exact same thing. Great picture then ..gone, with nothing but audio coming through. I am going straight to component which will still give me my 1080p and disc to display connection. Looked for days now on the net and am convinced there will be no detectable loss. Only maybe some of the features that HDMI connection can make. Saw somewhere that after October 2008, companies will have to list what they get with the newer better "HDMI ver" instead of just selling it to us as the latest.

Jus wanted to say same here with my pc being connected to HDMI if I switch to another HDMI for example PS# and switch back.. no picture!!! really annoying need to change resoluition on pc back and forth for it to work.
We had the same problem. Called Sony and they advised there was a "Software Mismatch" and suggest using a newer set top box. I'm just going to use the component. You would think they could resolve this with a firmware flash or something. Hope this helped.

I have a Sony Bravia KDL52 W3000 52 Inch HDTV LCD Television I am having a similar problem with Time Warners Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 DVR Box. Time Warner says there are working on a fix.
My Sony KDL52 W3000 Issues:
1. The picture goes black when changing channels from 1080i to 420i.
2. Audio will not work on my (HDMI Home Theater) when the Sony Bravia TV is turned off.
3. All of the HDMI Controls on the Sony Bravia are turned off or disabled. However when I unplug the HDMI Cable from the back of the Sony Bravia while the TV is in the OFF position the sound on my home theater begins to work.
I am finding this and similar problems with Sony Bravia's HDMI technology have been going on since before 2006. It doesn't sound to me like there ever will be a fix. The Consumer ends up being stuck with a HDMI Television that only works with component cables which decreases sound and picture quality.
I have done alot of research / troubleshooting have found Sony's explaination to be an HDCP code that the Sony Bravia Televions are passing through their HDMI port on the TV. Sony has told me that these cable boxes are not HDMI Compliant. They are not taking responsibility for their problem.
My Opinion in a nut shell - to date is, the Sony Bravia Televisions are not compatible with other HDMI Components.
We have a Sony 40" LCD(model kdl-40s2000) with a Motorola cable box from Comcast and are having the same problem. Of course both Comcast and Sony blamed each other, I was told the information was getting jammed up and that caused it to tune out. We use the component wires and they work great, althought they are bulky and messy. My Mom has the same cable box with a sharp 32" and it works great with the HDMI.
i had update latest firmware from sony website...

Everything's in the title. I'm trying to connect a XBOX360 through the HDMI ports of the TV. Nothing, black screen. Same thing happened when I used the regular cable (red/white/yellow thingy).
The HDMI ports appear to be burned out. I get sound but no picture.
