If your laptop is running Windows ME, 2000, XP or above, it should automatically do the New Hardware thing, and mount the drive. If using Windows 98se, you can probably get the drivers from the vendors web site.

Sometimes a usb port will not provide enough power for a specific device. Does the thumbdrive work in other computers? And do other USB devices work when connected to the laptop?

Oh, this is a known Vista bug. The solution seems to be to locate and delete the file INFCACHE.1, which may be corrupted and causing the problem. To delete this file, you will first have to modify its permissions so the users group can access it (right-click on the
file->Properties->Security). INFCACHE.1 file. It's located at C:\Windows\inf (scroll down to the file). (Note: to see INFCACHE.1, you must set Windows Explorer to display hidden and system files)

How do I get my USB in my vehicle working again?

You might want to try connecting a USB memory stick / thumbdrive formatted differently than is current. Some choices are FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, exFAT and others still. Your computer may recognize several of these - but car manufacturers usually aren't quite as up to date as computer / software companies.

If you're using an unsupported format on a thumbdrive - it may not recognize it. If you're using the USB for a different device (tablet, cellphone, charger, etc.) check to see if the connected device reports power present - if not - no amount of trying with various formats will get it to work. You'll need to address the lack of power at the USB first. Check your owner manual for the location of the fuse(s) that provide power to the USB ports.

How do i fi no bootable devices on my Toshiba Satellite laptop

.- what kind of toshiba you have?
Normally, if you have a bootable USB stick (and your BIOS recognize this kind of device) insert it and give it a try.
Or, insert a bootable CD/DVD into your CD/DVD tray and boot.
Once the operating system was booted from any of those devices, proceed with installation of the operating system on your HDD. Good Luck!

Im havin a problem wit my acer comin on it askin

similar story trying to fix friend's 5420. She had trashed Vista and lost any&all original discs. Well, who needs vista anyway...it's not one of M$'s better efforts. TRY THIS, download LinuxMint from a reliable source, burn a "live CD". put into drive, boot machine, during boot press "Alt"+"F12", select CD to boot from. See how it feels. Wait couple minutes for boot to finish then manually click on tiny icon next to network icon to load wireless driver, (don't ask...), on bottom right of screen. Learn some new stuff, toss some windows. enjoy.

Sandisk cruzer thumb drive

This just means it is trying to recognize the device. All you need to do is allow it to recogniz the device and find the proper drivers. You can put files in here by going into my computer and double clicking the mass storage device. Files can be draged or copied in here, then taken anywhere you need to go.
