I have a Zanussi ZSF 6160 dishwasher which is not heating the water. I've checked the PCB and visually it appears ok. How do I change the heating element?

Hi, I have the same problem with mine.
There are no burn marks on the PCB board so next stop is the heater.
How do I actually check if the 'contactor/relay of heating element is working?'

Measure the heating element resistance it should be around 25 ohm.
otherwise it is the problem.

You can replace the relay, sometimes it stop working with no external damage signs

Zanussi zsf4123 heating problem

Look at the wiring going to the ends of the heater to see if there is an inline thermal fuse that blows when there is trouble in the heater itself. It is about the size of a regular fuse, but may be contained in some kind of covering. It needs to be connected with crimp type connectors, because soldering can ruin the new fuse. Do you have a wiring diagram for this unit? It would help to locate the source of your problem.

Problems! zanussi zsf6120

You can check the heating element with an ohmmeter and it should read a few hundred ohms. Don't know about the thermostat but it should be inline electrically with the heating element and should ohm as a short when cold.
