1.Turn on your printer. 2.Lift the scanner base unit.(The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless
the printer is busy.) 3.Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid. 4.Remove the old ink cartridges. 5.Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink
cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier, and the color ink
cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.(Make sure to take off the sticker and the transparent tape from the back and bottom of the new cartridge.) 6.Snap each lid closed. 7.Lower the scanner base unit until it is completely closed.
Have you first put in the print head? It's in silver packaging taped or in the plastic bag that the printer came wrapped in. If that is in place the cartridges should just snap into place.
Probably just a miscalculation and/or an incredible use of the ink during cleaning. Either way you will need ink. Do not take these estimates literally as they are only estimates. You could try setting your default print quality lower to 'draft' and override for printing photos to save ink.
