The problem belive it or not is a simple fix...if u are electronic minded,,

you need to remove the collection pot / and the battery ..

now where the serial number is are 2 screws bellow remove them..

open it up behind is a pcb board,, now.. there is a security screw on the pcb ,, take that out also take both digital motor cable out pull up ,,,the red one that is..
then there is a white plug pull that off as well..

now take the pcb board out carefully as there is a long board that goes directly up into a hole in the top u pull it down u will see,, now this is the bit we want right at the very top of that board is a surface mount transistor,, 3 legs,,

now we need to totaly remove this,,, i used solder braid,, to remove,, now throw it away this is the problem..
now where the transistor was is like this a,b,c

now 'A' being right at the top of long board looking at the board and 'B' being to left and 'C' being to the right with long board facing up....

this is a simple trick comfuses the epprom into thinking the filter is on,,
as there is a little magent in the filter area big blue one that protects the motor,,,, now then , u must always clean the filter,,, dont forget,, as this little transistor goes faulty for some unknown reason,, must be a cheap magnetic nand gate switching transistors... this will get it working spot on i know as i have fixed loads..... found this out a few days ago after buyng 2 off ebay,, and took me allday to find the fault after replacing parts eventually i found this little guy was causing all the trouble..this will fix all these faults bellow,

1.) WORKS FOR 10 SECONDS THEN GOES OFF,,(also make shure your charger is giving out 28volts with a avo meter) and battery is charged for around 3 hrs fully ...

2.)FLASHING RED L.E.D (100% FIX) as this is filter cannot be detected..
reason it will work for a while is faulty transistor ,,,reads then 10 seconds later wont,,,epprom goes into fault mode take a while for it to reset,

best reguards lee,,

thank you, works great, easy instruction to fallow. Bill

    Thank you promo7uk.

I just completed your recommended revision to the PC board and after charging the battery, your revision corrected the problem. I was considering buying a new battery for $60 and I would not have corrected the problem. The Dyson DC16 now runs better than it did when we purchased it about 3 years ago.

Good instructions, however I would advise the reader that the PC board surface mount components are very small and require a low wattage soldering iron with a very small tip. Also the small screw that holds the PC board is a TORX number 6. That is the only tool I had to purchase to make the revsion.

    Thanks again,

    This is my issue.
    1) I pull the trigger.
    2) The vacuum turns on for about 1 second.
    3) The Vacuum stops and the red light flashes.

Performing promo7uk's procedure above did not fix my issue.

Thanks for this excellent fix !! Saved me a lot of money as I would have tried a new battery first which is £45. For those who haven't tired I recommend doing this first as very simple to do.

For information, I used a sharpe knife blade (stanley) and just cut down on the 3 prongs which hold the magnetic switch. If you just apply a little pressure between the prong on the inside which is facing the black switch, they cut easy and the blank square just falls off - also leaves the prongs extended to make new solder easy.

As for cable, I just took a piece of normal electric cable used on anything i.e. extention leads etc. Cut open to reveal the 3 internal cables - live, earth, neutral. Then cut one of these wired and take about 4-5 stands of the copper wire, twist together to make a small wire and that worked fine for me.

Tested with filter off and worked so knew the switch was fooled. However it did still show red light and only worked for 3 seconds still before switching off. Thought it didn't work, but then charged up and now get green lights on and stays constant - something I haven't seen for 2 years now.... Thanks Again !!

This fixed one problem, but my battery is 3 years old and needs replacement. Is there any econimcal way to replace the battery? I see them on Amazon for $56. I opened the case and see the 6 Lith-ion batteries but they cave-in quickly, I get 26v at full charge, then when I use the vacuum they drop to 16v.

thanks for clear, easy to follow instructions.
unfortunately, that hasn't had any effect on the problem.
The motor stil spins up for about a second, then cuts out and the red battery light flashes.
I'v checked the connections indicated, and charged the battery, but no joy.
could anyone help me with debugging this please?

The larger IC component (is this the eeprom?) has a motorola badge and the markings (i think) C6 HV 785-021. I can't find a data sheet for this component, or even any mention of it on the web !

any help would be much appreciated

You sir, are THE MAN!! Found it on eBay cheap not working $50. Buy soldering iron and solder ($7), and order it. Start taking it apart, that little torx screw is REALLY little. Back to discount hardware store, bits for $5. Get it apart and that black thingy doesn't come off. Reread your post, don't know what "solder braid" is. YouTube video shows it's another dang tool I don't have. Off to RadioShack, they're out. Go home, after a while decide I'm tired of obstacles and spending money, rip black thingy off. Monkey around with microscopic wire for 30 minutes, finally get it on there, burn my hands bad twice. Put it together and now 3 lights blink at me. Angry because I just wasted $60, and I'm not handy.
The next day, decide to run at it again, take it apart, 10 minutes. Clean up my mess around solder to make sure no conductivity to third post, try again. Immediately drop massive glob of solder on my wire and start panicking. Somehow pick it up again with the iron and decide that's enough. Clean it up again with razor, slowly put it together and realize I'm going to be disappointed again if it doesn't work.
I'll be danged if the thing didn't fire right up and work! I feel like I did when I put hardwoods down on the whole first floor! I am a handy man!
I've replaced two broken screens on the kids' iPhones too with my new tools.
That crappy soldering iron is going in the trash before I really injure myself....
But Thank You, this thing will be pretty cool around the house.

    fix did not work !!!!

  • Russ Franey Oct 13, 2013

fix #3- If you liik on the blue filter frame there is a small round magnet in bottom left corner, drill down to back of magnet on other side of frame, set frame back in holder and drive magnet out until it makes contact with grey cube. magnet is long enough for frame to retain it therefore preserving your filter detection fiunction.

For those not so electrically adept there is a simpler solution. if you buy a small fridge magnet with a clip from a dollar store, pop out the small round magnet and crazy glue it to the sensor located on the bottom left of the inside housing of the larger pad filter the unit will run. The bottom left part is grey and shaped like a square.

I have a dyson DC 3.5 model 11-6300 d1 it will run about 30 sec then shut down the green light will keep flashing whenever I tried to run it then shut down

the flashing light is to tell u that there is something blocking the suction of machine , most times its a full dust cup or hepa filter blocked this if allowed to continue will over heat the motor so it shuts off to prevent motor damage

Hesco generator problems

Check the Spark plugs. Pull them out and see what they look like. Replace the ones that looks bad. Use a Spark Plug Gap Finder and make sure it is set to the specs of the generator.

Could be the Fuel itself. When was the last time you ran it out of gas and refill it? If the spark plugs are fine Empty the tank and place some fresh fuel. Clean or replace the Air filter. Do the general maintenance.

Vacuum turns on for 2 sec and then shuts down, full bag light on , but bag is new

This is more than likely due to a broken control valve assembly. I'm seeing quite a few machines come in for replacement of this part.
To be sure, disconnect the hose and turn on the machine. If it still shuts off immediately, or if you place your hand over the opening and it shuts off, it's due to a bad cva. If it continues running, then the problem is more likely due to a clog in the hose or the tube in the power nozzle.
Also, try replacing or removing the afterfilter and see if that makes a difference.

You need to replace the hose itself. The buttons in the handle a very cheap and go bad all the time.

No suction for use of crevice tools, running hot, then shut off

Obviously no suction in hose would indicate a blockage, over heating is a breaker that shuts off the machine when it over heats. There is no way to clean hose the on this model because the hose does not detach at either end, therefore I had to employ the use of the good old wire hangar. Job complete up and running, with good suction. It is amazing what a prayer to God can do.

Heater/fan issues

There is a safety switch which will shut the heater element off if the fan doesn't run. If the fan doesn't circulate air, the element would overheat and could possibly start a fire, so the switch will shut the element down. I'm not familiar with this heater, but I would check to make sure the fan is operating and also check for any filters that may be plugged and restricting air flow. If anything interferes with the air passing through the heater, the overheat switch will shut down the element. That's the best I can do from here. Good luck.
