Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps.
Sat Nav not compatable, You will have to buy a NEW ONE.
If you purchased it in the USA, it will have USA maps. If you purchase a Garmin GPS in Europe, it will have European maps. You will need to purchase additional maps for your USA unit to use it in Europe. Go to the garmin.com website and you can purchase the maps there.
The map of Scotland comes with the "UK and Ireland", "Western Europe" or "Europe" maps so if you buy any of the three you'll have the map of Scotland. You can buy one of the maps by going to www.garmin.com and logging into myGarmin. Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen and then on "Purchase more maps" Follow the prompts.
Before buying the map, if you have a satnav bought in the USA you need to check if it will work in Europe. Most of the USA garmin nuvis will not work in Europe with the exception of those that come with both European and American maps.
You just need to load United Kingdom maps. Go to www.garmin.com find and purchase appropriate maps, then load them on your Garmin. Then you can search for Ireland address',, and will show your position in Ireland, or anywhere in the British Isles.
Alternatively, you could look on ebay.com for someone selling chip with maps already on them.
This more likely than you might think. Visit Garmin first and check out prices, so you know what is a good deal.
To update your satnav you first need to register it if you haven't already done so. To register:
Connect your satnav to a computer
Go to www.garmin.com.
Click the Choose Your Country box and select Ireland.
Click myGarmin
Click register your garmin product and follow the prompts
You'll be asked to create a username and password. Write them down and keep them safe as you'll need them again anytime you want to update your maps.
When you've registered go to myGarmin and click on myMaps. If there's an update available it will say so beside your map name. Click on Update Available and follow the prompts.
You'll need broadband to download the map. The map of europe is about 4Gb. If you don't have it you'll have an option to buy a dvd version.
When the map is downloaded you'll be asked if you want to launch the installer. Click yes or you can double click the file later. Installing the map of europe takes 3 to 4 hours and for the first 20 mins or so it appears that nothing is happening but it is. Once you've started don't interrupt it.
Usually they come preloaded with some maps and you purchase additional ones. Check the manual that came with it or the box and that should tell you which ones it has. Generally speaking a basic unit bought in the UK will come with UK & Ireland preloaded, more expensive unit may have UK, Ireland & Europe and the most expensive may have all three plus USA. It's unlikely you will have 'lost' your USA map. The unit should have a 'drop down' menu which allows you to choose which map to load. Hope this helps!
look for a small hole in bottom of unit. insert a small pin or paperclip and hold down for 15 seconds. try turning on again. Are you sure you have the correct set of maps for europe? you may need to manually switch to the correct map set as the unit may not switch automaticlly.
Hi, You will have to buy a version of European maps. After you download them into your Garmin it will work just like in the US. Here is a link I found for you. It looks like you need to buy all of Europe but there may be a way to just buy individual countries. Best wishes on your trip.

if your talking about proper postal codes,Ireland doesn't use them.Big cities like dublin, cork are broken down into numbers eg.D1 ,D2 etc.a fairly basic version of postal codes.outside of the cities there is no postal code sytem at all.
