I filled my washing machine with clothes tonight and it got to the end of the short cold wash cycle and had stopped running so I pushed in the knob then pulled it back out and then pushed it back in and nothing happened so I moved the knob to the rinse cycle and it filled with water and went to go to the spin cycle and did not do anything after that all the clothes were pulled out and rung all the water out of them and went and tried the knob again and nothing happened I have a Kenmore 300 series.

It sounds as if the machine doesn't spin during the spin cycle. Normally the agitator stops spinning, fairly quickly, if the lid is opened during the spin cycle. That safety circuit includes a switch mounted under the opening and is set by a tab on the lid that protrudes thru a small hole in the top of the washer. The most likely failure on most Kenmore models is that switch, broken or loose, the tab on the lid broken, or the two misaligned. I would need the model number of your washer, located on a tag on the bottom of the lid to be more specific

check the cold fill hose screen for silt or dirt. also check at water valve for the same and clean. you must have at least 20psi of water pressure for the water to come in. also on most washers cold water is used for rinsing.

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

    Washing machine won't drain

It sounds like you may have some bad contacts in the timer or you may have a bad lid switch which will not allow it to go into a spin during the rinse cycles or the final spin.

    GE washing machine water overflowing

sound like the same washing machine from hell that we have. three or four times it has overflowed from want we have been told the hose that runs from the drum to on/off pressure switch cloggeds with soap. we have tried different soap, hot water, cold, water you name it we've tried it. so now evey time we use it we have to clean it with a coat hanger by taking the front off the machine.

P.S. take the hose off top and bottom to clean it, all it takes two/three very small soap bubbles to clogged it
