You may run into troubles when playing such non-supported files with Windows Media Player. Then you need a codec pack for Windows Media Player. 1.K-Lite Codec Pack. This top-notch codec pack boasts of 4 different flavors: Basic, Standard, Full and Mega, covering file formats from common and commonly-used formats to uncommon ones 2. XP Codec Pack. This all-in-one codec pack also allows you to freely play all major audio and video files since it contains all needed codecs. There are plenty of FREE open source media players that you can use. I recommend VLC player. It will play everything, unless the file is corrupted.

I cannot open it with windows movie maker i use xp and won't work. It say's "it is not a valid windows movie maker project"

windows movie maker doesn't recognize mpeg 4 files. you need to use the software that came with your camcorder, or you might try downloading another player by doing a search for mpeg 4 editing programs. one other option is Media Converter (also media converter pro) there you can convert the files to avi or wmv that win movie maker can use.

I just used Windows Movie Maker to convert my .avi movie files from my Nokia onto a DVD. WMM burned the files succesfully and the DVD plays fine on my computer's DVD burner, but WMM is supposed to finalize...

Movie Maker is NOT the software you want for this process :D I tried a few years back as did my friend but it didn't work. Movie maker is ver basic and designed to teach children basic slideshow/video techniques. Try installing the free trial of Corel Video Studio Pro x3, this can make propper dvds, and also makes your files HD.

Is it possible to import MP4 files into Windows Movie Maker 6.0 without having to convert to a different format first? I have a Pinnacle Video Transfer device that creates MP4 files, that I want to...

Windows Media Player 11 recognizes and plays MPEG-4 just fine but WMM doesn't recognize them. I would like to import some MPEG-4 files into Movie Maker and work with them - is there a codecs or something that allows this?

I'm sure I can find a program to convert MP4 into a format MM will recognize but if possible I'd like to just skip the conversion step and work with MP4 directly in MM.

Thanks!====================================================
Movie Maker is not compatible with MP4 files...
best bet would be to convert them to .wmv.

The following freebie might be worth a try:

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/

All to MP4 / 3GP / MPG / AVI / WMV / FLV / SWF.
All to MP3 / WMA / AMR / OGG / AAC / WAV.
All to JPG / BMP / PNG / TIF / ICO / GIF / TGA.

You need some software to convert the protected M4P music file to unprotected MP3, WAV etc first, then you can import the mp3 files into Windows Movie Maker as background music.
TuneClone is such a software to convert the M4P music file to MP3, WAV easily. You can click here to download TuneClone and convert them to MP3 files and then import the music files into Windows Movie Maker project.

TuneClone uses a virtual CD burning technology to simulate the burning and ripping process and can convert M4P files to MP3 without any CD-R disc and do this work quickly. TuneClone installs a virtual CD-RW, it helps you burn any unprotected or DRM protected M4P, M4a, WMA music files onto the virtual CD, rips tracks on the virtual CD, encodes tracks onto MP3, WAV or WMA music files. It can repeat this audio converting procedure until your whole music collection is done.
Since the virtual CD emulates your computer RAM and hard disk as erasable CD-RW drive (Virtual CD-RW), the converting speed is faster than any other m4p to mp3 conversion programs.

Windows Movie Maker is video creating/editing software that is included in recent versions of Microsoft Windows. It contains features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration, and Auto Movie. New effects and transitions can be made and existing ones can be modified using XML code.

I need to convert video taken on my camcorder to .mpeg files to be compatible with windows movie maker. What's the easiest way to do this? Video on this camcorder is in the .mod format which is not...

Try the freeware program Any Video Converter. Download and install from a reputable site ( try cnet ) . This program is very user friendly and can convert .mod to mpeg fairly quickly ( around 60 minutes of video in 40 minutes ). It can also convert to other formats like avi and wmv. After it's installed, Click add video button and locate your files. Then in the drop down menu on the right, select the format you want the files to become and leave all options to default.

Video files don't upload

Windows XP? Are you using windows movie maker (WMM) to import them? I begin by copying the ".mod" files to my computer off the flash card which I insert into my printer. THe software Canon provides is useless. Next I change the file extension to ".MPG". Next open WMM, import video file, but when it starts doing so choose cancel. I don't know why that is. If you let it continue the import it seems to lock up. It will then let you drag and drop that video clip onto a movie.

Flip video Camcorder records video in .MP4 format, which is compatible for iTunes, iMovie, QuickTime Player. However, it is not understood by Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker. iOrgSoft Flip Video Converter is an intimate friend of Flip video Camcorder. Owning it, you can encode flip video to common video formats: AVI, MPG, MPEG, WMV, FLV, SWF, MKV, VOB, DV, 3GP, MOV, RM, RMVB and extract audio track from the referred video formats to MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, AC3, MP2, AMR, AIFF, FLAC, M4A, MKA, and RA files.
