Several years ago I used a Maxtor One Touch II, 200GB. I used it with my IBM thinkpad. I have a Dell now and haven't used this Maxtor in about 18 months. I have a new one hooked up to my Dell.
I need to access some information on my old Maxtor. I downloaded the closest Maxtor drivers I could find and it seemed to help. When I go the Manager it actually shows the F:Drive now but when I try to 'restore' it doesn't find any data. When I go out under "My Computer" I can see restore points in the file but for some reason my old Maxtor is not recognizing those. Is there anyway to solve this?
If files you are trying to restore are encrypted you will have to use same software to retrieve them.. If not, any file in the external hard drive should be viewable with your windows explorer.
And U do not need drivers for external hard drives. They just plug into your usb port and work with modern OS after the unit is recognized.

Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.
