My husband has tried all the advice but to no avail. The dishwasher has been pulled out but it won't drain. The intake/drain light is still flashing, Could it be plugged inside the dishwasher?
In the user manual there's a section on how to clean the non-return valve. It's the plastic piece under the wire below the triple filter. Why did you pull out the machine? Did you kink the drain hose? If you don't find a clogged valve, spin the impeller wheel several times. It's under the valve inside the bottom hole where the valve came out.
Now here's the important step- Reset the fault! Power off/on the unit. If the light blinks when you turn it on, Press and hold the start button 4 seconds with the door open. Find the combination of off/on buttons to press to reset the machine in the user manual.
(Note: If the machine runs continuously as soon as you pressed on the power button, then you have water under the unit in the safety pan. Call Miele for help.) Now select the normal wash cycle close the door and start it. The drain motor always runs first. This verifies to the brain how much water is inside the machine when it starts filling. The drain pump runs for half a minute. If you hear it running with no drain check the drain hose especially if it's connected to a disposal. Clean the disposal.. If it's not running at all the light will go on again before filling, call Miele. If the machine fill up with fresh water, the drain works. Watch and listen when the light comes on. Is it filling or did it start circulating? Open the door, are the baskets are dripping wet? Then it filled and circulated. If the light comes on several miutes later then call Miele.
This happens to me occasionally. There is a long thin bottom panel along the floor. Then there is another panel behind it. Behind, there is a pan that holds water. If too much water gets in that pan the intake/drain light comes on. Take those two panels off, feel in the pan, if there is water pooled, then wet vacuum the pan dry. That solved my problem and saved me about $200. I got that info from the miele advisors. That is what it is about 90% of the time if it isn't that intake valve.
If you are using too much or the wrong kind of soap, it will bubble up and water will end up in the pan. I had a long chat with a Miele guy, and since have used ONE TABLESPOON ONLY of Cascade (I measure) and have never had any water in the pan again. I had been using Seventh Generation some, and too much soap all the time, both no-no's.

Hi there,
Well first of all you can check that the stopcock is opened fully or whether the water inlet hose is kinked. Check that the water inlet filter is not clogged and clean it, if necessary, as described in the operating instructions. Check that the drain pump is not clogged.
Reset the error message as follows: To cancel the error message, turn the rotary selector switch to "Stop/End" or press the "Start/Stop" switch for approx. 5 secs. Then switch the appliance off and then back on again.
Good Luck!!
Just had the same problem, cleared the drain pump, the filter on the water inlet, etc. Finally called Miele and they suggested connecting a wet/dry vac to the drain hose and **** out whatever was clogging the drain hose. Worked like a charm.
I have the same dishwasher and it will not INTAKE water. This unit does ****. So much for a "smart dishwasher".
I had the same problem. Finally, Miele came in and put in a new part and it has been working fine. And he looked at my installation and gave me this advice and I don't know if it is applicable to any of you.
Miele dishwasher has always been using a 3/4" drainage hose. Most if not all, North American made dishwasher only require a 1/2" drainage. If you have switched from an American made dishwasher, your installer may just rigged it by "padding" the drainage hose to fit onto the 1/2" drainage pipe that was in place. If he is doing a proper job, he would have to change the drainage pipe to accommodate the 3/4" drainage hose.
My guy did not change it. Miele dishwasher is designed to drain within some time frame (think 20 or 30 seconds). When it is draining into a 1/2" pipe, it got slows down. It was like fit in a pair of pants that is half a size smaller than what you should wear, it will take time to squeeze in it. He feel that in the long run, that could have caused this little problem we are facing here.
This just happened to me I went through these steps and it still didn't work. Then I checked the water valve under the sink. I had had a plumber replace the kitchen sink faucet yesterday. He hadn't turned the water to the dishwasher back on. That's all it took.
I had a similar problem. Over the past few days I have been finding a small pool of water left in the morning (like it didn't drain enough). Today I found a massive pool and the inlet/outlet light was solid. After hand draining and trying stuff -- no luck. Finally decided to get old-fashioned, and just took the bathroom plunger and plunged the thing for a minute or two. At first it wasn't doing much, then at some point i could hear the water flow out!! It must have been some debris blocking the outlet. The plunger worked a charm - and all is perfectly fine now! Thought I would share. Good luck!
Good advice, Mukesh.
After removing the triple filter, scooping out the pool of water, and checking the drain pump (round plastic tube beneath the wire) to make sure the propeller spun freely, the light was still blinking.
What reset it for me was to (1) turn the rotary dial to "Stop", and (2) press and hold the "Start" button for ~5 seconds.
When I turned the rotary dial to "Normal" wash, the Intake/Drain light stopped blinking, the machine drained, and resumed its wash cycle.
Miele should have this basic troubleshooting info on its website or in its manuals (or both!).
I had the same problem with the flashing water intake light. Last night the main water line in the street ruptured and we all had our water turned off. When I tried to run the dishwasher today, after the water was restored, that light started flashing when I turned the dishwasher on. I think what the problem was air in the line. I remedied it by repeatedly turning the dishwasher on and it would fault out until the air was cleared out of the line. Thank goodness that's all it was. It's running fine right now.

this unit just sucks.
I have the same problem.
Water is left at the bottom of the dishwasher and the intake light is on. The dishwasher won't run a cycle.
When I searched the net for the solution to this problem, I remembered that it had happened once before. (My machine is 5 years old. This is only the 2nd time.)
I read these comments and looked for the owner's manual I had saved on my computer. (It's in PDF format.)
It tells exactly how I fixed it before, by clearing the valve.
Unfortunately, my hands are much weaker now, due to a computer injury (repetitive stress), so I don't have the strength in my fingers to pull the valve out this time. I'll have to get someone else to do it for me. But I do remember that this works.
Intake light is on (red)
have you open the pump section like it shows in the User guide?? One last thing have you had a new disposal install recently??
I fixed myself last year on the impeller motor in the bottom. It wasn't moving.
