SOURCE: Protect error
This is a failure of the power supply or the amp. In either case, this unit is one that the boards are available and should be replaced. The first thing you must determain is which board is bad.
I have been repairing these since they started making them, and can tell you that it is not an easy task to figure out which board is bad. You will need a multimeter, and then know how to use it very well.
Sometimes you can get pointed in the right direction just by knowing what was happening when it went bad.
If the unit was working and you turned it off, then the next time you went to turn it on you started getting the "protect" message in the display, you most likely have a bad power supply board.
If you were listening to the system and it just shut off on you and then when you turned it back on you got the "protect" message, then it is most likely the amplifier board.
There is one more thing to check before you ever buy a board for this unit. If the fan in the back is not turning when you turn the unit on, it may only need a new fan. Lets hope that this is your problem, it is cheap and easy to fix. The other options may be better for you to take it to a service center to properly troubleshoot The boards are a little expensive, but that is what Samsung does with these units, they replace the boards. Most all other audio equipment from all other brands do not even make the boards available.
Check the fan first, if you need the part number let me know, I think I may have a manual to look it up for you. If you want to try and check the boards, I may be able to help a little more, but this is a very difficult thing to do over the internet.
I would appreciate it if you would wait until we are finsihed communicating on this problem before you rate it.
Thanks,
Dave
SOURCE: When i turn on my samsung HT-Z110, the word "Protect" appears...
Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.
You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking
noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault.
Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.
Regards.
