My Norstar M7208 shows "message for you" on the display. i dont know how to check the messages nor does anybody else at my store. how can i get past this?

More details:
Feature 981 will get you into the mailbox. You will usually get a prompt for a password. If you don't know the password, you will need to reset it at the voice mail system. A password is 4 digits long.

If you get the message "Log:" or the prompt "Please enter your extension and password," you will need to enter your extension and password as one long number: foir extension 123 password 2222, you'd enter 1232222.

If you don't have a voice mail system and the message is displayed in error, Feature #65 should clear it up.

The 7208 does not store messages. Do you have a Norstar Voicemail on the system? If so you need auto attendant or direct-in-dual access to retrieve messages. Or via your telco's voicemail if that's what you use.

THis is usually because it thinks that there is something there, but the code path to 'clear it" doesn't follow the same logic path. Sometimes, adding a new message - i.e. dial your number from elsewhere, to create a real message waiting, and then clearing that, resets this.

More than likely someone in your office left the message rather than the voice mail. To clear it press feature #65. it's possible the the person/s that left the message left multiple messages. in that case repeat the procedure til all messages are canceled

When someone calls my phone from another extension in the office how can I get the time stamp to show on my voice mail instead of the persons name?

The date and the callers name should display on the telephone. You cannot display the time stanp, however you can press 7 to listen to the message envelope, which includes the time stamp.

Phone company should be able to fix this. Generally if you don't have the code to enter the phones system, you won't be able to clear it.

Norstar M7208 telephone

This could be because you have several mailboxes/extensions set up. We've had the same problem in our office.

As a result, from the phone that reads "Messages for you" you can find out which mailbox is attached to the phone.

1. Press "Feature"
The display will read: "Set: ???"

The numbers shown in place of the question mark will be the numbers to the mailbox attached to the phone.

2. Press "Feature"
Enter 981 for voice mail access

The display will read "Login: "
Enter the numbers from the previous action, and if you don't know the password, attempt to use the default passwords of 0000 or 1234.

This worked at our office. I hope it works for you.

If you don't know the password, but have access to the system administrator login, you can reset the password for the set you are trying to retrieve messages.
