I bought a replacement remote (model 27185) to replace original on Hunter fan/light. Worked fine after installation. Later in the afternoon, fan light was off, and then the light came on without pushing remote. Used remote to shut light off. Worked O.K. Next morning fan was operating on high speed without pushing any remote buttons. I tried to reset dip switch on receiver and corresponding locations on transmitter, but would not operate. Returned dip switch to original factory setting on transmitter, and it operated O.K. without returning switch on receiver to its original factory setting. Tried with old transmitter, and had same results-all dip switches had to be in original position (off) in order to operate fan/light. And the receiver dip switches could be in any position. After trying to reset switches, neither the light nor fan has come on by themselves. How can I get the transmitter and receiver to operate with the dip switches in coordinating positions other than all of them in the "off" position on the transmitter?

Same problem here. Had a master electrician install 2 Hunter ceiling fans today including the transmitters for the Hunter 27185 Remote Control. Have found it's impossible to dim the included light on either fan and now the fans or the lights keep turning themselves on with no assistance from either remote control. What a piece of junk these remotes are. Love the fans but can't wait to get the electrician back to rip out the remotes so I can take them back to Lowes!Same problem here. From what I have read this is big issue with these remotes and hunter fans. I had electrician replace 3 remotes for wall switch remotes 2 work fine 1 fan upstairs will either turn light, fan or both on full speed at all times. Funny thing is problem may not happen for 1-2 weeks then 4 times in 24 hours. Very frustrating! Will try changing dip codes but have read mixed reviews about this being permanent fix. From what I have read this is big issue with these remotes and hunter fans. Since installing the remote to my Hunter ceiling fan the lights and fan come on without my use of the remote. All of a sudden I'll wake up in the wee hours of the morning and the lights are on as bright as they can be and the fan is whirling away! Has anyone found a solution other than replacing the unit? I've had the same problem w/ light turning on/off. Called customer support and 3x waited 6 minutes to leave message and get no call back. Finally got a human and she told me to change code in receiver and transmitter. This was no easy task as the fan is very high up and the stupid thing needs to come down to adjust the receiver. Changed the setting and it worked for two days until it started back with the lights turning on at all hours. I noticed there's a toggle switch in the remote that is not explained in the manual. It says CFL on one side and INC on the other. The light will NOT dim if it's in CFL and tonight is the first time I've switched it to that setting. I'm hoping this is some kind of lockout for random signals going out of the remote...It would be nice to have a proper explanation in the manual. I should have gone with another Casablanca fan--Hunter products are lame.

27185 is the model # of the remote. Check to make sure your light wires are connected at the light fixture & receiver. Also, make sure your dip settings are set on the same frequency. Lastly, push the light button & pull the chain on the light.
I have a hunter fanaway ceiling fan with remote it came with. they work fine. i want to set an additional remote for use at different light switch location. there are NO DIP SWITCHES in it, and i can't figure out how to pair it. super frustrated. i've tried turning power off, then back on & trying to pair with no luck. the light on the remote does turn on when you push a button, so the battery is fine.
any ideas? i've looked everywhere online
I have had the same problem with the light coming on intermittently by itself. At first I also could not change the settings and have the remote work with the new settings. But I found out that when you change the dip switch of the receiver you must turn off the power using the wall switch or the circuit breaker and turn it back on before the receiver will use the new dip setting. I am still waiting to see if the light will come back on after changing the dip switches from 1-on, 2-on, 3-on, 4-off to 1-off, 2-on, 3-on, 4-on and the remote's jumpers from 1-jumpered, 2-jumpered, 3-jumpered, 4- no jumper to 1-no jumper, 2-jumpered, 3-jumpered, 4- jumpered.
Most likely this is caused by radio interference from some other device nearby. Try changing the "channel" by changing the dip switches on both devices and make sure they match. :)
You need to completely power off (wall switch or breaker) when changing the dip switches. Not just power off from remote because it will keep previous setting. I learned it the hard way....
My solution for intermitent light on/fan off-on: It is not outside interference. It is defective receivers. I took back my second 27185 back to Menards with the exact same problem as the first. I went to Home Depot, bought a Hampton Bay model 191-691 remote unit for $8.00 less with same features and when you turn the lights off then back on, the receiver remembers the brightness level you turned off at. Been installed for a week now with no problems. Hunter would have acted up the first day.
Those aren't transistors in the transmitter they are jumpers. Match the jumper settings with your dip switch settings in the receiver. You can move the jumpers in the transmitter using a small needle nose pliers. An open jumper in the transmitter equals an OFF setting on the dip switch in the receiver.
Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.
But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.
Do not use the factory default position in either fan. Double check the dip switches, and make sure they are the same for each individual receiver and remote.Different codes for each. Dip switches are the oppsite direction in the remote for some reason?
