How do i reset the pin coad wen i have forgot it ?

You cannot reset/change the iPod's password once it has been set without having to restore it to its factory settings, but if you only want to unlock it connect it to an authorized computer and it should automatically unlocks it. If for some reason you cannot seem to unlock it like this then try manually changing the locked file into an unlocked one. First you need to make sure you have your computer/mac set to view hidden files, if not, follow this for windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files and this for mac: http://guides.macrumors.com/Viewing_hidden_files_on_a_Mac
once that is done, go to My Computer or Finder, open your iPod by selecting your iPod's Name "iPod", then go to the now visible folder called "iPod control", now open the folder called "Device", once here you should see a file called "_locked" right click on it(Control+ Click on mac) and select "rename" now add a U and an N right after the underscore so now it should read "_unlocked" and done! Your iPod will now be unlocked no matter what.

Stuck on connect to itunes screen

You may need to reset. Important: Only reset your iPhone or iPod touch if it is no longer responding. To reset, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

IPOD DESPAIR

Reinstall iTunes:
  1. First uninstall iTunes from Add/remove programs
  2. Next connect you're iPod to the PC
  3. Go to the Devices Manager by going to Control panels>System>device manager
  4. At the bottom of the list is the USB devices. Find the ipod or a device with a yellow triangle next to it. Right click, choose properties then delete the drivers.
  5. Goto Apple site and download the latest iTunes8 and install it
  6. ReMount your iPod again
  7. With iTunes loaded select the device from the list on the right (if it hasn't already) then click restore on the main screen.
There isn't a reset utility for windows Vista because this is the way to do it. Any version of iTunes above v7.2 will do it.

All the best

IPod Problems - Connecting to Windows / Songs Cutting Short

Sounds like Vista has some setting causing it to want to check all USB devices. Maybe a virus scan or something?

Yes restoring an ipod resets it back to all factory defaults, which is to sync automatically. So whenever you restore you will need to recheck that box.

Ipod shuffle will not work

Try resetting iPOD, this worked for me. Had the same problem before in Vista. Googled for solutions which included updating your iTunes application with the latest version and all, got nothing until bumping into this finally. No worries, resetting doesn't mean you're also deleting your precious mp3s, this process just restarts the device just like when you reboot the pc.

To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)ipodg1-2.gif ipodg3.gif
  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Solution

Microsoft has released an update for Windows Vista that addresses a situation where ejecting iPod from Windows Explorer or by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows Vista could corrupt your iPod. Apple recommends Windows Vista customers who own an iPod install this software update. For information on how to install this Microsoft hot fix, refer to the "Update your software" section below. Tip: iPod can always be ejected safely by choosing Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.

Update your software

Microsoft has made this Update for Windows Vista (KB936824) available via Windows Update as well as a separate download package. To download this update via Windows Update follow the steps below:

  1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, select Check for updates in the Security section. If the Control Panel is in Classic view, open Windows Update.
  3. Click the View available updates link and be sure that Update for Windows Vista (KB936824) is checked.
  4. Click Install.
