I found this by searching on the 2050c. I read this and it did not help much but I got to thinking the scanning was done by a narrow slit and my verical lines running the lengh the image had to be dirt on the slit.
I got some very good quality color printer paper not real heavy maybe even 20lb and ran about a hundred pages throught the scanner. Slowly the lines faded to white even at 800x.
I did take a slightly damp soft cloth and wipe the area where I thought the slit might be. We have 2 of these scanners and the other had a faint line too and while I was on a roll I ran pages through it.
Maybe this would work for you. In any event it almost has to be something on the scanning part.
Make sure light does not shine directly on top of the scanner, if light goes in, you will still get lines... Also: Try aligning the paper on the corner where the arrows are, and close the feeder guides.

Clean the slit glass under the document feeder. Lift the feeder and find the thin piece of glass on either the left or right side and give it a good cleaning - you marks will likely go away.
Here is a how-to for removing lines from Sharp copiers.
Pls check if you have selected 'duplex' scanning. The extra page could be back side image! Clean the glass images without lines.

Run the Print Quality test. Sounds like one of the color cartridges is bad. Also run the Disable Cartridge test. That will let you test each cartridge by itself.
Before you do that, open the front door halfway. Now you can see each of the color drums in each cartridge. One of them may have a 1/2" stripe on the drum on the left side.
Try cleaning the charge wire. Move the lime green plastic handle from one side of the image unit to the other in the groove. If this doesn't work you'll need a new image unit.$$$$$. note: Make sure green handle is moved completely to the right when finished or black line will occur.
Sounds like the drum surface has been damaged by some foreign object.
Typically when you get imaging errors such as lines from top to bottom of a page there is a permanent scratch on the drum surface. Pull the drum unit out of the printer/copier and carefully examine the drum surface, you most likely will see the damage quite easily. The only repair is to replace the drum unit with a new one. HOWEVER... be sure to clean the inside of the machine with a toner vacuum to remove any dirt, debris or paperclips, staples, etc that might have accidentally been introduced into the unit.
This is a workaround - I too need a definitive answer. Symptom: black dotted vertical line 1/2 to 3/4" from leftmost image edge. I have begun adding single vertical line to my prints .25" from the left edge of the paper to force the "dots" off my print - this seems to have the desired affect, but it does not answer the cause or provide a true remedy (it will save many of your prints while we wait for complete solution). dkh
Black horizontal line down right side of paper. Cleaned it and nothing helps.
