My generac guardian RV ran for a few hours then suddenly turned off. As the weekend went on the run time got shorter and now the generator only runs for a few minutes and turns off without a load. I replaced fuel filter but problem continues. The generators starts right away, but after a few minutes stops. Any suggestions?

Usually the generator will shut down if the ac is not present coming out of the generator. You stated that it still runs but no power on the output. Check your breakers first to make sure they are working properly. Depending on what board you have you can check to see if ac is present getting back to the board as well. If your board does not have this then they are using the frequency as a safety disconnect feature. That would lead you back to the regulator or loose connection or..dirty slip rings if this unit has brushes.
If it backfires, check for manifold leaks, fuel mixture is too lean, timing is off, make sure it isn't spitting liquid into the cylinders and the LP is the right pressure, and the vapour coil is working
You say Guardian that is Generac???? Then you indicate Onan 4.0KY. If it is a Onan and it stops after you release the button there are a couple of things. 1 st check the brushes, and polish the rotor slip rings, check the resisitance of the rotor, the electrical harness plugs are tight. The control requires a voltage feedback while cranking to engage the PCB run circuits, if all those check out you have a bad control board.
If you dont find a solution here. Call Generac in Waukesha WI. and get the number for Robert Schwalm Co. He is the best in the Country for Generac I used to be #2 but I havent worked on all the new Generacs. Give me an old RV unit and no one is faster!
If this is one of the big "taco cart" portables you need to check that the vent on the gas cap is open when you're running the engine. In the center of the gage on the gas cap is a little knurled knob, turn it counter clockwise (lefty loosey), about a half turn or so and run the generator. If that doesn't solve your problem add to it here, otherwise please give me a rating I'm trying to build a little credibility here and could use the help. Carl
