I also have a 2 yr old Sony KDL32xbr4 that now has multi-colored vertical lines on the screen. I contacted Sony and they say they have "no known issue" of this sort for this model. I find this rather puzzling since I have found numerous postings on the web. They told me to try the factory reset. Whatever. Might as well have said "don't buy a Sony". 2 years! $1300 for a tv and it lasts 2 years! Makes me sick to my stomach.
I unfortunately have come into this same issue with the same set paid the same amount, I am done with Sony period factory reset doesn't do anything....anything at all, unplugging nothing will fix it, to them it is either send us your set for a fee or buy another one of our new 3d models man hell with SONY!

I have a similar problem too with my KDL-46XBR4 LCD TV. I am having a technician look at it this week.
If you have a KDL-46XBR4 or KDL-46XBR5, Sony is now extending the warranty on the LCD display and will fix the problem for free through September 30, 2012. See: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=378&mdl=KDL46XBR4 Call their customer service number and they will give you a case number. Then call one of their authorized service centers and they will fix it free, in home.
I have a Sony KDL-32XBR4 and have issue with vertical color lines. I contacted Sony "Customer Relations" and mentioned the above link. They asked me to take my TV to an authorized Sony Repairer. After dialogistic, the problem is caused by bad "T Con Board". They offered to pay half of the repair and my diagnostic fee. Total out of pocket for me is $100. Hope this helps
I just tried to get the same treatment (same model same issue), but Customer Relations stonewalled me. No more Sony products for me!
After striking out with Customer Relations, I nosed around online some more and eventually discovered the email address: [email protected]. So I sent a message telling of my frustration with Sony's lack of response to my dilemma. To my surprise and delight I received a phone call in response the next day and, after verification of my purchase price and date, I was offered a new TV at a very substantial discount... an offer which I have accepted.

I've been told by a tv technician that it's the lcd panel that's causing the problem with my 2 year old Sony bravia 32xBR4 lcd tv - that's what's causing the coloured vertical lines down the screen. I'm waiting to hear from Sony. Hope they do what's right...
