Hello I have a klf 300b that I am working on as a wee project At the minute when I connect the battery terminals the bike sparks and tries to start even when the ignition is not on. Sometimes when it starts the starter continues to churn and churn and churn. The switch is fine. When we disconnect the starter obviously nothing happens and when we separate what I think is a starter relay behind the battery box it does nothing either. Can anyone shed any light on what I'm hoping is a very simple problem. Running too lean at full throttle. Yes you need enrich the high speed mixture a little but make sure the blower has warmed up first that if the carburetor is adjustable.
Adjust the choke or carburetor. In case your chainsaw stalls when the engine is idling, ensure that the choke is set properly. To do so, first try releasing it to adjust it, and then move the plate and tighten all screws once again. To loosen any grit, spray carburetor cleaner spray on the choke's shaft. The carburetor may also need to be adjusted; consult your owner's manual which will guide you on resetting the idle mix screw.
have the carby overhauled as you may have dirt/water in the idle circuit . Adjust the idle mixture screw a bit. Adjust the automatic choke to come on more at idle.
Carby carby carby!
Give the carby a flush with some Carby Cleaner. (retail 400g aerosol can)
Check condition and clamping of inlet manifold for cracks, warping or air leaks.
Reset Slide Needle one notch down.
Turn air mixture screw fully in and back out one and one half turns and try idling now.
When you get engine idling turn the air mixture screw in or out to the highest revs without use of throttle. Reset idle to optimum speed with throttle stop or idle screw.
Cheers.
you need to clean out the carburetor, the gas isn't getting through it. the bogging is caused by all the gas going into the engine cause of the choke, it dumps raw fuel into the engine and cant burn it all, there fore bogging and acting sluggish, the back firing is caused by the same thing, too much fuel going into the engine and being deposited in the pipe and igniting occasionally, clean the carb out and it will run fine
check to see if you have gas in the oil from a carb leaking down which will cause the idle speed to drop when motor warms up.pick up idle run for awhile then plugs foul.like you said a carby problem.
